Default Your Worst Nightmare!

After an extensive front-to-back, top-to-bottom, inside and a little bit of outside refresh of my S4 over the past 11 months, my worst nightmare has been realized. When people hear of the scope of what has been touched over those 11 months, it inevitably provokes the question: "did you have any parts left over?".

Turns out that I did.... a 17mm bolt. Now, a 10mm bolt I can live with...but something of this size immediately suggested that I was in trouble. I scoured the underside of the car to no avail, and then I also found the bracket which led me to where I was remiss.

So, with one bracket already tying the exhaust manifold to the bell housing, anybody have an idea of where (or why) this bolt/bracket is needed?

Duh....

Kinda looks like one of the crossmember-to-upper control arm bolt brace through bolts.

Your real nightmare is why this is still here:

IIRC it is on the manifold on the other side.
Just checked PET and brackets are placed on the right and left side.

What Roger and Rob said.^^^^

NOTE if the bolt goes to the driverside it a lot more difficult to install due to the rack being in the way but it can be done .

The driver's side bracket is routinely broken, and (last time I asked) is NLA from Porsche.

If they get installed UNDER the Y pipe, they get pulled off by the weight of the exhaust.

So, my unmolested and unrestored, numbers-matching exhaust support bracket is collectible item?
