I'm having some issues with my recently installed Koni's ( red adjustables from Roger ) and I need to know the thread pitch of the rod end. Any idea?
I'm having trouble threading the nuts onto the end of the shock. So much so, that the allen wrench socket in the end of the shock stem is starting to round out from counter holding. I thought that the nuts supplied with the shocks may have been "spring loc" nuts so I want to replace with standard ( non-lock ) nuts.
Have any of you experienced similar issues with these Koni's? The nuts that came with the shocks wouldn't even thread on far enough for any threads to be sticking out the top of the nut. The threaded rod is just shy of being flush.
Thanks in advance for your input

We did an install on a local's car here ayear or so ago, and fought the threads for a few hours before we realized that the two front shocks had different thread pitches on them. Supplier Roger had sent the nuts with them but obviously didn't see that the two were different. He's aware of our situation, solved locally for us anyway with hardware-store and Rob Edwards' spare shock nuts.
Bottom line: There doesn't seem to be a standard. You'll want to fit the nuts by hand to make sure they fit, regardless of the thread pitch, before you start compressing springs and wresting with stuff under pressure.

Use your tap and die set or buy one and see what die fits the thread properly.
Thread size and pitch is printed on it.
I just bought the rears from a rennlister
and there are no nuts with them so i've got to do the same this week

Or... Go to the parts/hardware store with the shocks, and get the nuts that fit.

What Dr Bob Said ^^^^
NOTE we fitted a full set of shocks on Dariens 86 and one set of shocks had a different thread pitch,
so be careful, if the nut starts binding up it not the correct part.
Also for anyone fitting the Konies and using the Boge adjuster collars,
make sure to get the ride height correct before installing the springs,
as the inner Boge collars will not be locked to the shock body,
and thus adjusting them when they have been assembled will not be possible.
This is the second set of Konis I have installed that have used the Boge collars,
and found that adjusting them after they have been installed was impossible.

Hmm.. vague memory says 1.25 thread pitch - I'll go check as my '89 is currently up on stands in the garage from pulling its steering rack off last night.
edit: Just checked a front shock and its M12 x 1.5mm
My Koni's are the newer style with the thicker shaft that requires a mod to the factory dust covers.
