Dear Rob Edwards, I'm trying to make sense out of my VIN & engine # and no luck. Is it weird that my car only has 12 digits (080125241182 )? & I've got no clue what's going on with the engine code (63D1063). Would somebody mind helping me out with these numbers as I would like to know more about the car I've purchased. All the help is greatly appreciated.

edit: I'm guessing its a pre-13-digit VIN 911 (up to '80?) with an 3.0l engine transplant from an early 80's 911 SC.

WPOZZZ9288201118 is 16 digits, not 17. Without the WP0ZZZ prefix, it could be a U.S. spec '78, but we don't have options data for '78s and '79s. What year 928 is this from?

It's the funky green CraigsList 1978 from my other post,
the VIN is listed actually in the CL ad as you pointed out, no WPOZZZ but only with the
"9288201118" only.

Its a US market '78. 78-80 didn't have the 13-digit vin number. 13-digit VIN started in 1981

Thats all we can tell you - no options data available for the early cars except directly from Porsche.
