Hey Rob, exactly how does the 928 VIN system "work" ? Are all of the VINS "known" or at least able to be "calculated or assumed" Is it possible to develop a database of all 928 VINS? has it already been done? (outside of the factory system?)
Everything in the post you made is correct about the 10 to 17 digit VINs and which character(s) correspond to which attribute. There's a good description of Erkka's reverse engineering of all 928 VINs here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...in-thread.html

RE: has the database been done, the short answer is yes, but not outside the factory system, if you're counting PET as 'factory'.

Is my #0405 listed among the South African cars? Mix up somewhere maybe.
Mine is definitely Australia delivered and I have the "turbonator" air intake tubes which were for dusty environs I always thought. (They work too).
Odd that it is so limited in numbers as well.
Its all interesting.
Argh, thanks for catching my mistake. The country code C23 is indeed the Australian market, C26 is South Africa.... So everything I said about the South African market, I meant Australian market. I'll edit the above posts.

Thanks Rob for the reply! I just figured I asked in a innecesary new thread regarding the VIN. I can upload a photo of the car (interior/exterior) but I was wondering what are those colors? Car shows 39k kms on the clock though, has not been kept as it should, and at some point they upholastered the seats and steering wheel with not good quality on my eyes as there are other things that need attention. So this is a pure german verison and 4.5L instead of 4.7L right?

Diego-

Unfortunately the options database we have access to does not include exterior or interior color information. If you post pics of the car we can probably identify the colors, however, or you can match them up with the color listing at Landsharkoz:

https://www.landsharkoz.com/colourstart.htm

RE; the engine- if the original engine is still in the car, it should be an M28.11 4.7 liter motor with the bigger intake runners and cams, and 300 hp.

Thanks Rob, good to know, here are simple shots of it. Not sure how much you can ID from there (also the original radio is backwards), aftermarket window switches, and as you can see is not well preserved for 39k kms on the clock but can be brought back to life.
