Not only that but he also indicated to me that the whole set up really doesn't make acoustic sense. Somehow is opinion is that the rears detract from the fronts...

I have to admit I just want more good speakers... A fool and his money are soon parted?

Hadn't noticed that my rears were installed inversely. I have to check them though because of a buzzing noise. Maybe I refoamed one not quite well-enough? We will find out.

Maybe not needed now, but I'll add my vote for refoaming.

I for one may not have heretofore not noticed that the speakers are different.
I'll have to look at the part numbers to figure it out - I haven't noticed and have mine out of the car atm.

I don't know nothin' about no acoustic sense (as they say in the Deep South) but all the 'high-end' and 'professionally' installed 928 stereos I've heard have been two-channel systems. I have such a setup in my '89 courtesy of a PO. I think they sound like crap when compared to a four-channel system with good speakers. In a 928.

IMO. Also my hearing has been damaged.

Some say brain too.

So, take salt with the above.

I have to admit I just want more good speakers... A fool and his money are soon parted?
For the 'big' speakers the pot of gold is the custom housing with more depth than stock, thus allowing use of any good 6" speaker. Of course the problem there is that they will all be 4-Ohm speakers which you won't be able to drive from the factory amp with the stock wiring. And if you do a bit of rewiring the stock amp doesn't have enough power drive them well.

For folks that want to retain the stock amp, refoaming is the only option of which I am aware.

I didn't say that we did get them in swapped, just that we had a 50/50 chance

The mistakes I have corrected on refoamed speakers were all due to not getting the replacement foam glued-down around 100% of the perimeter. When this happens its obvious: buzzing.
