How about another run of watches..?

In my opinion... a new watch design would be interesting ... an exact copy would be controversial at best. Sounds like the plan is to come up with something new and different.
Maybe a spinoff of the phone dial along these lines:
Although the phone dial only represents a small segment of early 928s, and not exclusive at that.
Following are some sight to perhaps draw some design style inspiration:

I am in for one. I would suggest serializing them from 1-100 (or however many). That way people could, if in early enough pick the last two digits of their VIN just to be super geeky.

One thing to keep in mind, folks: other than a Seiko 5, I don't think I'm going to be brokering complete watches. This is - in the finest traditions of the Shark community - going to be somewhat of a DIY project.
If you don't get a complete watch, for $35 (plus a few more of a hands set and S&H), you'll get a watch dial that will fit any of hundreds of Seiko case designs made over the last 30+ years. At that point, you source the remainder of the watch you want (I've bought many used Seikos from eBay for customization), send it to one of several expert watchmakers here in the U.S. who specialize in custom Seikos, and you will have a completely custom watch on you wrist for under $200 - well under, if you shop carefully.
I'm just not a $400 watch guy. I have a drawer full of custom Seikos and I think the most expensive one I have ran me about $100. Most were in the $50 range.

Well, with that in mind... I like it. Keep it simple by creating a dial design that could fit any number of different Seikos. Maybe you could post pictures of a few of you custom Seikos to show ideas of what is possible.
In true 928 DIY fashion, maybe we could figure out how to assemble these ourselves.

Shawn,
I am partial to chrono watches, as I frequently 'time' things and like that convenience. I'm interested if the face could be used with a Seiko chrono. But I do like the concept picture (of the watch - not the face or the hands) of the last watch RKD posted above for a simple 'classic' appearance.
Like Mel - want one for predominant use - not to store on a shelf. THANKS for the idea.

wow, talk about a blank slate. That's pretty cool how you can change the images so quick. Once something is designed, I don't thnk the real world swap looks that difficult:

Here is one of my designs--a clock face in this case.
I have another design for a watch face with a slightly similar theme, at least with the 928 located on the left at the 9 o'clock position. That one, however is desgned for a kind of plain-faced chinese watch that has the hands offset to the right. I was going to lazer engrave the design into the crystal with the 928 on the left and a Porsche crest on the right, However I could not get my son to help me make a simply one line drawith of the crest so that it would engrave without simply blowing the whole crest into a blur. I was goimg to use them as a giveaway at a Porsche convention, perhaps with some additional commemorative stuff engraved on it such as OCIC or similar on the top and the year below the center. I don't have a picture of that design.
That watch would have had to be strickly a giveaway, as stated, since I am sure Porsche would not appreciate me selling something with their crest on it.
This is submitted for what little it might be worth in coming up with a new face design.

The only other 928 watch thought I can contribute is that some time ago I bought about a dozen Chinese watches on eBay that have the Porsche Crest just above the center and the numerals 928 just below. I bought all the guy had to offer then and assumed that he would have another dozen to sell shortly after that; but none ever showed up. Then, some time later, just about all of the various chinese watches with the Porsche crest on them disappeared from eBay. My thought is that Porsche probably made issue with eBay about allowing the sale of their crest by others. Now my collection of a bunch of them that I accumulated, also to use as giveaways, is probably going to become rare, including what is left of those with 928 on them.
Perhaps a face with the 928 just below center and the sillouette above would be the best way to go? However, I still like the use of 928 at the nine oclock position, and in preference of highlighting the 9, the 2, and the 8, around the face. Just me.

I like the idea of putting a porsche crest at noon, 928 at 9, and maybe some sort of silhouette in the lower right... maybe something like this but real small:

And I agree with Gary regarding the last case & band shown by RKD. Very clean & classy look. Although I like the possibility of a chrono, I think that would severely limit anything else going on the face & might defeat the purpose a bit.

I'd be in for around $100+.
The original watch was a beauty, but a bit too spendy to justify the expenditure.
That said, I currently own around 45 watches, but most are under $500.
