Default transmission fluid change after rebuild?

I got my '89 Auto rebuilt not to long ago (a month of so). I know for a lot of engines you usually change the oil early to get rid of particles. Are these automatic-transmissions the same way? Is their a recommend fluid change time period after the rebuild?

I would. I like to take a peek at the fluid for color and fragrance, plus look at the filter for signs of particle contamination. Cheap insurance in my opinion.

I suppose it depends on the extent of the rebuild and how fastidious the rebuilder was. The whole point of the rebuild was to get rid of particles, you'd think a good rebuild would be ready to go the normal fluid change interval.

But I don't own an automatic, what do I know?

When an automatic is rebuilt, there should be zero left over debris or particles.

"If you can't lick it, it has no business being installed."

Certainly, the factory has no "break-in" service interval, like on an engine.

I'd save my money and change the fluid at the normal service interval....especially if you used a very high quality fluid, like I do in my rebuilds.

Greg are you allowed to ship a transmission full of fluid? I figured their would be some clause in the CFR about it. Is it the shipping companies responsibility to pay for environmental clean up when they cause a leak (probably)? I can imagine a environmentalist making you pay for their friends company to dig a 20x20x20' hole in the ground, then send of the soil to be cleaned and new soil placed in.

Dr. Bob, thanks for the advice, your infinite wisdom reminds me of Wilson Wilson, Jr. from Home Improvement (are you him?).

No, I'm not him. He passed away a few years ago now, while you guys are stuck with me.

There are only one ore maybe one trans rebuilder I'd trust to do the job well enough to skip the fluid inspection. If I shipped the trans to Greg, I'd still want to look at the fluid to see how well I did on flushing the rest of the lines and coolers. Like AC systems, recovery from a system failure demands a lot of system cleaning. Otherwise the debris from the earlier episode will likely cause another similar episode. Sooner than later in my checkered experience.
