Thanks I'm not entirely sure about 944 and 964 being origionally fitted but there are a few listings on ebay here in the UK for 944 and 964 cup mirrors! They dont seem to be electric though. If memeory serves me right 968's had them? But if Iv got to change the bases I would be better sorting the genuine article.
Im lookking to have my S4 painted over the winter and considering a few updates I have a GTS rear bumper and reflector already and considering the wider arches.

Aero Mirrors were/are available either manually or electrically operated.
Bases are pretty cheap by Porsche standards. Remember they are different RHD v LHD.
$50 to $55 each.
Current price for the 928 set of Aero Mirrors with glass = $825

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

I wonder what you or anyone else with a 928 might think about the possibility of adapting 96 to 04 Boxster side mirrors to the 928. Seems to me that they are similar in shape to the Aero mirrors on the GTS and are a little larger, which would solve one of the criticisms I have seen about changing to them from the flag mirrors = kind of small.
Here are some pictures for some comparison.
But then if anyone could do it, my moneys on you Jerry

My idea is not artfully expressed. What I meant to ask is what does anyone think about the use of these Boxster Mirrors on the 928, assuming that they can be made to be installed on the 928, which of course they can be.
My concern is not so much about what is thought about how it can be done, but rather about what anyone thinks about their desirability from a styling or esthetic standpoint.

Jerry,
I think they would work well too and would be interested. Do they have the turn signal repeaters built in?
The new "911" mirrors look good too and the base angle seems closer to ours, at least from looking at pictures.
Cheers!

I think they are an improvement over the flags, though it would nice to see them mocked up via photoshop or something. Boxster mirrors should be more abundant than the aeros, whether that helps get to a reduced price point or not I don't know. Wonder whether there are aftermarket manufacturers for them.

I bought a few of these on eBay to use for this project a while back and they were fairly abundant and very much cheaper than aero mirrors.
They don't have the turn signal repeater in the mirrors.
These mirrors mount in the front bottom corner of the left and right door windows versus mounting over a hole in the sheet metal just below the window. That means that this conversion, if accomplished, will lend itself only to those who might be repainting their car or at least that part of the car, so that the holes can be welded up.
The front window corner on the 928 finishes in a small arch while these mirrors finish at a sharp angle. That means that that part of the morror base must be changed to match the 928. The other thing about the base of these mirrors that is of concern is the angle of the base as it matches the window. I haven't checked to tell how close these mirrors are to the angle of the 928 windows. A small amount will be easily adjusted for, I think, but more will be more difficult.
I think all that will be needed to do this conversion is to fabricate a replacement for the base that will fit the 928. I think a mold or molds can be made starting with these bases and scabbing on some stuff to use to sculpt the new shape and then making the molds off of those plugs so the new bases can be made of fiberglass. The mountiung hardware hidden by the bases can be changes a little so that these will mount firmly to the sheet metal of the 928 window rim and which will allow the window glass to transition up and dowm just behing the mirror base. The only other thing that will be needed is some kind of cover for the inside to simply hide the view thru the window of the unside of the bases. I think I would form that in ABS plastic so that it can be covered in leather or such and then somehow snapped into place.
The wiring for these converted mirrors will pass over the bottom edge of the 928 window opening without any or much metal removal and through a slot or notch in the newly formed mirror bases. The connection to the original wiring will simply take place inside the door body just below the edge.
As stated above, this conversion may be suitable only for someone who is going to repaint their 928; however, it might be feasible to provide some sort of plug for the hole in the door that could be painted body color and used to fill or cover the original mirror hole in the door either permanently or until the car might get repainted. Just a thought.
