Default Genius bumper cover fix on the cheaps

Anyone out there have a bumper cover that is dented, or otherwise mis-shapen? Well I had this crazy idea of how to fix mine after the crash (see my website) and I tried it out tonight. There is a company out here that boils the covers in a hot tank, and the bumper covers come back into their original shape from memory. Being that I don't like paying other people to do what I'm capable of doing, and since I'm rapidly running out of cash, I took that idea to home use. Hmmm, no large pots, nothing that would fit something that big, unlesss..... Crank up the heater ALLL the way on the hot tub, throw it in, and VOILA!!!! I checked it 4 hours later after the tub had heated, and BAM! Good as friggin new!!! I pulled it out of the tub and I was amaaaazed. Couldn't believe it. Now if only the fenders could do that.... Hehehe. So, you got a damaged bumper? Got a hot tub? 2+2=bwaaah baby! (I had to post this immediately, so I'm still pretty excited) My thinking was, well heck if they can boil it, all I need is something large enough to hold it with boiling water... Hmm, that hot tub needs to be drained, waters kinda dirty, it might just fit... Yep, doing it. Ahhhh, now I need to calm down and get some sleep. Gotta take the motorcycle test in the morning and then get this thing on the road again! More details as they come...

...or you can leave it out in the sun on a very hot day (on asphalt or concrete surface)...My Rubbermaid garbage cans often get run over and banged up by cars, and end up deformed into a very solid new shape that is impossible to reverse without actually breaking the plastic!!!! but a couple of hours in hot sun always brought them back to their original form

Barry thats good info to know. I watched a local co. do some bumper repair, but they used a very large oven. It's nice to know a hot tank of water will do the same thing.

That's one funny *** dog video you have on your site Go Humpy, Go Humpy

Cheap?
Now you've got my attention.
Say, after the 2 wheeler test could you get to work on ... a $100.00, 200+ HP, forced induction system that is a perfect fit and takes an hour or two to install? I'm talking 2 valver, auto here.

Barry,

What has the weather been like down there lately? I'll be out of here in 22 days! Four days to get the sharks rolling again and on the 16-17, I'll be up in Renton for the WA State IDPA Finals. Gotta show those boys what shooting is about. Can't wait to drive a real car again, the Pathfinder we have up here is killing me.

Great info Barry. I love to see that kind of innovation. Did it hurt the paint?

Hey Shane,
make sure you email me when you get here, I'll make sure we have a PacNW928 group get-together/dinner in your honor!
Andy, the paint was not damaged at all. I'm still amazed how well it turned out... I'm going to see if I can bend that bent rivetted metal piece on the top back into shape to get rid of the dent above the washer nozzle.

Will do BJ. I'll just post to the PacNW group when I get there. Hoping to pick up a laptop before I head out so I have some connection to the Rennlist and PacNW Group while I'm there.

who needs weather for raising the temperature of asphalt? A couple of burnouts should do the trick
