Default 1773 928? Opel/Corvette

We attended a body design presentation last night at the local PCA meeting and a GM designer who worked at OPEL in the early 70's showed a pic of a concept car that OPEL designed and built in 72 and exhibited in Germany in 73 to utilize a mid engine wankel. I spoke to him afterwards and he did not know if Porsche had copied his design, said he would like to think so, but since he did it 40 years ago he could not recall what happened with it or who took notice.

Anyway, I searched on here for Opel and nothing showed up so I thought I would post the pic.

I think one of the guys who designed the 928 body had worked for GM in Europe before going to Porsche..... it was Anatole Lapine..

Anatole Lapine was born on 23 May 1930 in Riga, Latvia. After the war, Lapine served an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic with Daimler-Benz in Hamburg before attending the Hamburg Wagenbauschule. In 1951 he went to the USA where a year later he began work at General Motors in the advanced body engineering department. In 1965 Lapine returned to Germany and was put in charge of the Opel Research Center. On 15 April 1969 Lapine moved to Porsche as head of the styling department. In addition to the design of the Porsche 911 so-called “G Series” numerous new Porsche models such as the 924, 928 and 944 saw the light of day under Lapine’s direction. But Anatole Lapine and his style team also delivered a number of Porsche Engineering third-party client development design projects.

I would certainly like to see more views of that design!

Very cool. Some noticeable similarities. Looks like no hatch and no back seat and less "pacer-like" greenhouse in the back. I like it.

I think the gold colored pic. was a clay mock-up. There is another pic online of a red one which is the one that Kip Wasenko used in his presentation. The online pic is from a Road & Track cover story. It is very small so I did not post it at first. The actual body was built by Pininfarina in Italy.

Looks an awful lot like a Corvette XP-882, from 1970. Sheesh, GM was doing badge engineering on their concept cars?

Looks like a Maserati Merak to me. Only C pillar similarity imo.
