If I wanted to drive in the 25 hour race what kind of license would I need? If anyone wants to share seat time at that race I'd be game. I'd volunteer my car but I'd need to install a full cage. Could happen...

Rookies only allowed in the first 6hrs (daylight).
Its getting larger every year, this year we're +10 registrations over last year...about 85 at this point.
Generally speaking, at least 1/3 of entries dont make 25hrs. A minority of those from contact, the rest from some form of mechanical distress or another...IE:, after about 2am, Miata rear hubs start to fail if you run too hard.
After 10yrs of 25hr races so far, the 'popular' cars weak points at specific consistent lap times are well known..so every year that's dry, the # of laps in each class is setting new records.
But other than a license and a car, all you else need is money...the entry fee aint so bad, just gas & tires.
There are some specific rules that keep all but the open classes cheap..like you may only use standard 5gal fuel jugs to refill and no work on cars while fueling...cleaning window and driver change only. no air jacks, and only -1- tire over the wall per pit stop.
Anything else, back paddock.

I know Sean wants to run the 25 in a 928 one day.....It does sound interesting...but it is such an effort and requires the right group of people to pull it off....I found it difficult running a lemons "endurance" racing 928 & that was only for 8 hours per day, not racing 25 hours straight!!!
It is fun watching the top teams work, its amazing how fast the GT3 cup guys can fix almost anything, but it is a pro team...even top level spec miata guys have everything down to a science....they know exactly how hard to push, for how long to maximize every component and fuel mileage too

Yup...typically E36 M3's...extremely fast....currently 7 seconds per lap faster than my best...its not uncommon for the fastest GTS3 cars to be on the pole in Group C, unless something really wicked in STU (unlimited) shows up
Honestly my 928 isn't 10% as developed as these M3's...these guys know what they are doing, are well funded AND are good drivers.... I'm still learning, have a sad budget and still can improve the nut behind wheel
Can't beat them, just race in a different class

PS: If anyone wants a real kick in pants watching semi-pro and some pro racing up CLOSE...
I could use pit marshal volunteers. Good food, good on & off schedule, and you're close enough to get gas on you the whoooooole race.

Great info about the 25. Unlikely I can get 8 races and a license under my belt in one year unless i am out there nearly every weekend. Tough to pull that off in this house...
But my intrest is piqued! I will look into it. Brian, I think a properly set up and appropriately driven 928 could make 25 hours. I don't think it could work running wide open the whole time, but as you know the 928 is remarkably robust once properly sorted.

Simply take the green, and take the checker.
That's it.
You could do it in two weekends.
Doesn't even have to be in your car. Just $ for the entries I guess.
This is assuming you do not already have a valid SCCA/FIA/NASA license and medical...which is actually to slightly tighter standards than the FAA Ive recently had to endure/discover.

Congratulations Brian.
So does this now mean you've done some "real racing" as some here have been busting your ***** about?
Who won the last time we raced? I seem to remember a split decision. I can't wait to race our cars against one another again. It's all ways a blast.
