Default Experts: Your advice on lock motors / lock mechanisms

Hello, everyone.

Three questions for you all:

I recently purchased a used lock motor (from a reputed source.) It rotates s-l-o-w-l-y, only about 2/3 the speed of the lock motors on my '87.

I disassembled the lock motor

Question 1: To clean the lock motor, should I:
a) Spray it down with electrical contact cleaner as is?
b) Clean with denatured alcohol?
c) Disassemble, clean with denatured alcohol?
d) Other

Question 2: To lubricate the lock motor, should I use:
a) Dielectric grease?
b) Super Lube?
c) White lithium grease?
d) Teflon Spray
e) WD-40
f) Other

Question 3: I would like to lubricate the door lock mechanism itself (as opposed to the lock cylinder.) Would you use:
a) Super Lube
b) Graphite Powder
c) Teflon Spray
d) WD-40
e) Nothing
f) Other

Thanks in advance for all your replies!

I disassembled mine and used grease, but there may be a better lube.

Two things though -
- see if the motor runs normally with the gears removed.
-check the voltage to the motor, while turning if possible.

why did you replace the original motor? did it turn slowly as well? does the other door motor operate normally?

Hi dfr,

I replaced the original motor because the top of it (that connects to the ball joint) was broken. The one I bought is used.

What kind of grease did you use?

Ask them to send you another one.....or transfer the good pieces to your broken one.

My guess is that you could spend a lot of time on this motor and it might still be weak, because the actual electrical part is frail.
