Its starts...It drives..it shifts(very nicely i will add)....and with all gears!
Got the fluid in this morning and drove about 30 miles..freeway..around town.
All is good at this point.
In short it was dirty fluid, dirty valve body...dirty filter caused by disintegrating friction material.
the transmission will be coming out shorty, put aside for a rebuild and the spare with LSD put in.
Ive got some great valve body pictures to organize and post when i get to it. Here's one below.. Hopefully these shots will end the need to look at the ATSG and various MB manuals etc for assembly reference. Not one of the images in the manuals i looked at is exact to our specific transmission type. There are some very subtle differences among the components even with in our own units. The picture of the check ***** is an example....one of those ***** is different and goes in a specific spot. (it isnt the one on the spring either...look at the reflections)
more later.

like it usually does...1-2 is solid... I still have that slight 2-3 flare though..3-4 is fine.
Im not going to be hard on this unit at all considering the friction material is coming apart inside.
Trust me Darien it was a big relief as i drove down the street and it shifted. Actually, first, i backed it out of the garage 3 feet then put it in Drive, just to make sure i actually had gear selection and it was OK to head out.

There are subtle changes, virtually every model year.

slightly is an understatement seeing what was in the pan. Considering it has 178K miles on it and now at this power level...it needs to be put right/replaced asap.
there was no way i could do this with out taking pictures(even then i messed a spring up),plus, i was frustrated at the various manuals as far as images.

Brilliant job. Should be pinned and in the DIY section. Also, I often look at stuff you've done on your website. Add this if you haven't already.

Absolutely great work Tony, wish this was out there before I did my VB work. Interesting that the manuals list all the check ***** are the same size and that you had one that was rubber/matte finish and different size. All 18 in mine were shiny and same size.
