First I tried installing a Becker CR-220, which is the tape deck version, with a Becker Silverstone CD changer.
The head unit was too wide and too thick, while the CD changer turned out to be a dud (eBay purchase). The seller sent me another one, essentially the same but labeled CDC-3, which was also a dud. Rather than get a refund I decided to keep the changers and the connecting cables sent to me by Stefan at SW Stereo. All of this stuff will likely be for sale, and if not for sale refurbished.
Anyway, I finally decided to go with a Retrosound unit that has a "Euro" face and vintage Blaupunkt style *****. It's a great aesthetic fit and has a remote USB port mounted on the driver's side shelf so I can connect my iPod/phone uncluttered.
I will post a sunlight pic when I get a chance.

Nothing wrong with that. Would love to see it when finished. Would also love to replace all the speakers but I've heard the size and leather coverings make the speakers difficult to replace.

Aaron,
Buy the speakers from Hans - plug and play for your car.
Care to share the details of what you bought and from where? I need one for one of my Weissach cars.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Retro sound has 4 x 6 speakers that will fit in the early 928. I purchased 4 speakers with the same head unit. I spoke with one of the folks from Retrosound and he made recommendations for me that should work well. The door speakers are only 1.3" deep and will fit. I put in the rear speakers and they made a difference. Working on total interior refurbishment on my 1978 dash and console out to be redone.
I purchased the model one radio and the retromod R-463N 150 watt 2 way speakers (4). Radio is about $250. With 4 speakers looking at $400.

Yes I measured them. They are thinner than the OEM speakers that I removed. They come with a universal mounting bracket that will match the bolt pattern. Once I get my interior back from the upholstery shop I will post pictures with the total installed system.
I am down south in irvine.

Post all the details too, which shop, and how the panels look, how the speakers sound.
I am wondering which normal brand speaker those might be, or if they are something custom.
