Default Hatch release cycling.... did not want to shut off

This afternoon after hitting Hans soft touch control for the hatch release it did open the hatch but the motor kept going until I pulled the plug at the motor. What causes that, the ground wire touching the body?

Please and thanks

You could always do the hatch release upgrade with a golf release motor......

It's normally something in the motor failing to make the correct contact......

there are two transistors that you can replace in the motor this should let the motor cycle again.

NOTE I also used this repair with success

I have no idea what that really means... but don't bang anything it really won't help...

You may find that adjusting the motor up and down may help or cleaning the internal motor track - but likely the motor brake transistors are blown as Stan notes...

Dave the transistors are less than 4.00 and a some soldering will have the motor working perfectly.

NOTE The good thing about the 928 is that many of the parts can be returned to service, if simple repairs are made.

Of course there are some parts that must be scuttled like fuel accumulators and dampers and timing belts and WPs and MMs

REPAIR LINK again...

In my case, I opened the motor, cleaned the track and widened the gap in the copper path until it stopped reliably. That was 6 or 7 years ago and it continues to operate perfectly.

I used Bill's method and widened the gap between the copper sectors too. I must say that used and with the 928 Intl half price sale, $32.50 sounds pretty good for some people too. Thanks for the link, Stan.
Good luck,
Dave

Check both switches too.
I've had plastic cover on one to melt after similar situation.

I widened the gap too and it worked perfectly for the past six years.

If you decide not to repair it but to replace - I agree with Colin - use a VW Golf release motor - its a much better, more robust, faster design. Pretty easy to adapt to a 928, easier wiring - will last better and is likely cheaper. Releases almost immediatly and has no parking cycle.

Alan
Do you have a vw part number or year of golf. My motor appears to be stripped.
