It's been a long time since I posted. I'm practically out of 928 ownership, although I have a key and a lock cylinder, a hot water heater valve, and all 9 volumes of the 928 workshop manuals. So, that's almost enough around which to build a 928.
But I'm racking my brain right now trying to remember a dust up about 10 or 12 years ago when a SPEED announcer during an SCCA race criticized the 928 as "not a race car" and questioned why it was even on the track. Good candidates for the car he was looking at were obviously Mark Kibort or Mark Anderson at the time.
Ultimately, his comments grew ugly and he kept making them. I suspect dozens if not hundreds of 928 lovers on what was then the 928 email list called SPEED to complain and the announcer apologized on air and did a short feature during a race interviewing Kibort and/or Anderson and talking about how capable they-- and their 928s-- were on the track.
I've never forgotten it. But I did forget the name of the announcer. Was it Randy Buck?

Kind of garbled between "doesn't have...." and "sounds good....".

the 928 has proven itself to be quite competitive at is price point.......to get something significantly faster you MUST spend tall piles of cash......Yes Anderson had a mild stroker, but nothing like the turbo Volvo engines or even a built corvette LS engine....
I know how much $$$$ I have in my current racer......I don't of anyone who can match it on a lap time vs $$$$ spent basis..... The Estate is an even better comparo.....throw slicks on that $500 car and it will crush spec miata-E30 all day

What the hell was that flying 928 thing about? Was it some sort of Euro version of the Gumball Rally?

Such a great period of time for the 928!
I think the best was when mark was in the top 10 and beat one of the Audi RS6s with Galati at the wheel. he even punted him at turn 11, to boot!
I think that was 2004 sears point.

Thanks, Mark. It doesn't strike me as offensive as I once considered it to be. I will say that I recall him making right, as well.
