Default Video from Watkins Glen HPDE with Niagara PCA

6 928s in total at the event, in three different run groups. Read through the Kraken thread for some insight onto how everything went down. But here's a video from my last session of the last day. I get passed a lot, in part because this was my first time running in the white run group, which has some very talented drivers. But I also do some passing myself!

The wire is an attempt to power the GoPro that was sucking down battery juice the whole time. You can tell it's not getting power anymore when the alternator whine goes away. Sound improves at 2:46.

Ed Standke makes an appearance at about the 11 minute mark.

Mike,

Great video of your last outing. Congrats on moving into white, after watching the video, it is certainly an appropriate place to be, and your instructor 'done good' by signing you off.

Sent you a PM regarding the drop links you have for sale.

Cheers, and nice to see you again. Keep the torch burning for getting 928 owners to really experience the capabilities of our cars at the track. Fun watching you pass the 911 going into the laces - well done.

Wow, thanks Gary! High praise from a high priest of 928 tracking! Great to see you again as well, and that AMG of yours is indeed mighty speedy. Drop links will be on their way to you shortly. Monsooning here right now (followed me from the Glen perhaps) so probably tomorrow.

Another; this one starts after our restart after a Saleen Mustang broke a suspension bolt, causing a full course blag flag so they could tow him back. Third session, day 2.

Mike, that's some great video! You definitely have the skills... Since I did not have a camera mount in mine, I am reliving my laps through your videos! Except for my first run - that would have made an amazing video. First lap dry, second lap torrentially wet with rivers on the track, leaves everywhere, third lap a Ruf 911 passing me by in the front straight, only to have me pass him in turn 1 as he performed a hydroplaned pirouette, then followed by my windows fogging up and me having to go off line with hazards on just to find and turn on the defogger. Classic.

Great to meet you there and love the fact that we both brought our dads along. I hope your dad had has much fun as mine did.

Had a quite a few great memories there. Love how most of the 928s hit the tech inspection at the same time. It was like the bad kids had arrived to school.

Also loved how after my last run on the first day that Ed quickly found me to tell me that Helga sounded awesome. Very high praise coming from him!

Loved the back and forth passing with Michelle in the Green group. Felt like our 928s were dancing.

And I had such a great time with Gary and Kitty. Without those two, I would not be there and would have never experienced such an amazing event. It really is the people that make this great, and Gary has been as great mentor and friend for me. Thank you for making my first DE so special!

Jason, you might enjoy this one...

Glad you're enjoying them. I've found that the GoPro is one of the best investments I've made in my brief tracking career. Fortunately now I'm using it to improve those mad skillz.

Definitely a pleasure to meet both you and your dad. Even more glad all of the 928s survived the event! When's your next one?!

Can't wait for my first DE in November. Thanks for posting these videos Mike. Both inspiring and feeding my fever at the same time.

Mike,

Great videos! What suspension setup are you running on your car (springs/shocks)?

Cheers!

Carl, I'm using eibach springs and blistein shocks. It was a stiff set up that came with a car I bought for parts. Been running it for several years and I'm very happy with it.

Also using a 928 Motorsports ultimate sway bar kit, solid steering rack bushings, and new upper control arms from 928 International.

And thanks Brian! Most fun you can have with pants on!

And it just so happens I have a birthday coming up in a few days. Looks like you helped me find the perfect gift for myself.

And yes, I will be back on track! I got the fever, and the only prescription is more track time!

Not to mention that the seminary ancillary, but intended benefit is that I drive around on the street so much smoother now. I drove down 15 South heading home from The Glen cruising through the fog layer in the mountains. I felt like I was flying more than driving. So relaxing and pleasant.

Yup! The eyes are glassed over and a huge smile on his face, he's hooked on the track crack!

You got that right, Ed. When you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about shift points on the track, I think its fair to say that I am happily suffering from an addiction to track crack. Hopefully Michelle is too, as she helped hook me by passing back and forth with her. When she passed me the first time, I thought to myself, "if a 928 can do that, so can mine" and thus got me going. So happy I got to meet you in person, and I still relish your compliment on how my 928 sounds!
