removing the cam gear
Still working on the TB/WP job, and I am trying to remove the crank gear. I have tapped the woodruff key with a hammer and used some pb blaster but still can't get the crank gear off. I can't get a gear puller behind it either. Any tips?
Also trying to get the oil pump off. Do I have to remove the rear tb cover? Any hints on this one?
thanks

Watching this thread because I'm in exactly the same position. I can't find a decent sized puller to fit around it. The shaft is in the way. I've been trying to get the damn gear off for the past 2 days.
Unfortunately I can't leave it alone because the washer behind it is all mangled up now and some of the teeth got bent on the edges so now I have no choice but to replace it.
EDIT:
What size puller did you use? I've tried 2 and 3. Too big, I can only get one jaw on. Two small, shaft in the way. About to give up...

The crank gear is tricky, soak with a penatrating oil for a while. You may need to damage the backing washer to get it off.
The oil pump gear needs to be counter held to get it off.
Without a special tool take a big screwdriver and put it through one of the holes and put it up against a rib on the pump. Use this to prevent rotation while undoing the bolt.

^ What Colin said.
The oil pump gear wasn't bad for me. Jam a screw driver than socket wrench on the bolt to loosen it. It was still stuck on there so I used this:

Two pronged but the stock bolts for the tool are short. So I used the long 10mm timing belt cover bolts to connect the prongs and then the gear came off. I'd suggest having some help to balance it, a PITA to do it by yourself.

My cam gear came off by hand after a brief fight. I'm in the about the same boat for the oil pump. I believe you will need to remove the plastic backing plate if you want to remove the pump itself, but not for just the gear. I was able to put my puller fingers in through the holes in the oil pump gear to pull it off.

Dwayne's guide says to try a lever, block of wood against the engine block, put the center bolt back on but not all the way and use a long crow bar (or one with a hole that you can screw on) behind the bolt to work it out.

Could also try to screw a "handle" to it, a piece of metal with a hole large enough to have the bolt go on and just pull straight out.

AHAHAHAHAHA I finally got it off! Used the Craftsman 49605 2-Jaw puller that I bought and intended to return, just tweaked it a little, used some parts from another puller to create a platform against the shaft and slowly worked it off.
A layer of rust on the shaft kept it seized on there. Unfortunately the crank gear is no good. Worn down to the metal all the way. More parts to buy. Going to delay this job for a few more days.
Turned from a simple TB/WP to all gears to clean up and front end rebuild.
