Headlights, one of my favorite features.

I sure agree with you, many cars have pop up lights, two of the things that make the 928 a little different, you can see the lights before they pop up and they rotate forwards.
On a lot of other cars the lights are hidden and when raised, move up and back if you see what I mean, I think cars with no visible headlights look a little odd, well to me anyway.

They're awesome, very unique in how they rotate into place and how they seem to stand apart from the car when on ( a throwback to the real old days). They always grab the attention of cars driving alongside. I like the view from the drivers position also.

Probably I'm a bit of a Douche but I always wait 'til I'm beside another car to flip the lights up. I always look to see the reaction and feel a bit smug (in a childish way) as I cruise past.

Stylists will be taking more and more advantage of HID projectors, CFL and LED technology. Headlights as we have known them will be lost as stying features within the next few generations of new cars, I suspect. Aerodynamic concerns will give us little 3" domed lenses for headlights, with flush-faced body-colored marker and signal lighting with embedded LED's that only "appear" when illuminated. The iconic headlight pods of the 928 will sit next to Tuckers and '32 Fords in headlight-pod styling history books I'm afraid.
The 928 is ripe for a HID projector headlight upgrade in the original pods though. A couple projectors could be used in the bumper too for fogs and aux high beams. Done in a muted, tasteful way of course.

I remember a kit car built years ago with one big headlight mounted in the middle of the hood. Looked like a cyclops. I think it was called the Jack Rabbit. This should definitely be added to the headlight museum.
