How to physically remove blower unit????
'90 S4 RHD
Last night I undid all the screws holding my blower unit in so that is was freely moving around. I then tried to remove it from the car but it wouldn't go past the panel at the bottom of the windscreen so I loosened that and managed to get it out further such that the bonnet (hood) was now in the way!
How the heck do you get this thing out of its cubbyhole? It doesn't look like it would go through any of the holes into the passenger compartment so out the top would seem the only way.
I am hoping that you don't have to disassemble / remove half the front panels to get the blasted thing out!.
Any tricks / pointers gratefully received.

if you drop the bottom of the blower box then the motor will also come out the bottom,
NOTE this works for car with the steering wheel on the left and the blower on the right.
I have not had the opportunity to work on a RHD car.
Other wise remove the hood then the wipers then the cowl panel then the motor will lift out

Thanks.
Having spent ages getting the bonnet aligned just right I am loathe to remove it. Also not an easy job to remove with one person...
I will wait until the blower motor goes from being slightly noisy to being annoyingly loud.

YEah, after trying to get it out from multiple angles, I removed the bonnet. Definitley a two person job.
Here is a pretty good writeup. There may be some variations on a RHD car.

Also, somewhere on Rennlist or on one of the member pages there is a writeup for repairing / rebuilding the blower motor. Can't find it in my "Favorite" links but search the forum when the time comes to replace yours if you have problems sourcing a new unit.

I was able to get mine out by removing the two bolts from the hinge to the fender and getting a helper to lift and hold the hood. Tight fit, but it will come out that way. Good part is the bolts going into the fender have little or no adjustment, so hood goes right back where it came from. At least it did for me ...

I marked just the one hinge and removed the bolts. The strut decompressed and held the hood up and out of the way. If your struts are new/strong, you should be able to do it by yourself.

Myles,
Your RHD car is a mirror image of the LHD car. Brake booster, wiper motor, intensive wash bottle and expansion valve are on the left side of the car. It is easier to remove the cowl in front of the windshield than remove or unbolt the bonnet. Remove the wipers - then two bolts on the end of the fender and two screws under the windshield side trim and you will have the extra access to remove the blower motor and ------.
If you want to improved the amount of air flow we sell an upgraded blower motor for $225. Comes with a relay kit made by Greg Brown. More blow for not a lot of dosh.
