Unhappy Warning Not Resetting

I have historically had a coolant warning light, tried to resolve at both of the sensors (level and pressure) to no avail but have been "living with it" for some time.

Until recently my warning light (central exclamation point) would come on every time I started the car but would reset with the button on the center console.

Recently the reset is not doing anything, even momentarily, so the central warning remains on all the time (both dash and center console).

I have confirmed that all of the warning lights on the dash are illuminated when doing the bulb check (key on but engine not running).

Any insight where to look next? I would prefer not to defer the diagnosis until winter season pushes the car off the road (although that time is getting here faster than I want to admit).

some critical warnings only go off with a battery disconnect...like brake warnings. Try that.

Roger, mine had that problem recently. I had a short in one of my interior lights, and when it was fixed the problem disappeared.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my console "!" button not reseting, and it was the plug besides the radio that needed a little "touch" to make the right contact!
Just another ideia you can check!

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. This group is always very helpful.

j - I recently had been disconnecting the battery to diagnose if I have a weak battery (not holding charge) or a small drain. Maybe I started something without knowing it.

Scott - I know the rear deck lid light tends to fall out of place so that is a great suggestion to look at.

Ricardo - I do not have a radio currently but there are a number of wires floating in the open space so I will need to check that none of them have gotten involved with something else. The radio is a long overdue project but that is another story.

Roger, you would be amazed by how easy it is to short those lights. I've shorted two of them to the body- which is the "ground" by the way. You should definitely check it first because it is easy to check.

Ricardo wins the prize - played with the wires coming from the reset button area and found that by moving the wires around the problem went away. I guess I need pull the unit when it gets put away this winter and determine what needs to be tightened up.

Thanks guys

That's great.

Glad I could help!
It happened to me with the easy operation of switching radios, when pushing the new radio in, the plug must have been on the way and get disconnected! As you can imagine, when I had that problem, someone here on Rennlist told me to check the plug behind the radio....

Denny, I gained the ability to reset. The light comes on when starting and resets when the button is pushed. I suspect it acts that way because of the coolant warning that has been on for some time even though the cooling system is fine. One of those when I get around-to-it problems that never seems to get fixed.
