Default m 28/42 block FS

Believe it or not... As I was doing my regular job today, I came across a customer that had a 928 block in the lower level of his shop. This guy puts together a special monthly magazine for the Mercedes gull wing cars, and also writes sales proposals for Drag racers looking for sponsors. Anyway we got to chatting and he told me about a block he has, cuz some guy was in debt to him. Anyway he would love to sell it if anyone is interested.

The block looks super clean with very nice cylinders, but it has a flaw, one of the crank bearings has spun. It is not bad, and I barely noticed it, but it did spin at some point.

#3 main?

Doesn't really matter. At this point in time....aluminum for the recycler. Tough to repair, as there are no oversize main bearings.

And 90% of the time, there are cracks running up into the water jackets, associated with that bearing spinning.

Even if Greg says yes, go to the trouble of double nutting and removing all the girdle studs, they are not available separately. Be sure to heat the living snot out of the surrounding block to melt their loctite.

20 years from now...different story....if it isn't cracked up into the webs.

I've had several of these blocks machined on both of the two halves and then align bored, back to standard. The oil pump, the front crank seal, and the flywheel seal holes need to be bored back to the original size, at the same time.

It's not a cheap thing to have done....and not many machine shops will even attempt it (probably a good thing.)

Now if you told me that it was an original GTS block, I'd want to take a look. However, as a 5.0 block, at this point in time, it is just scrap.

Great idea to save the main studs! You, or someone you know, might actually need one of these, before you forget where you put them!

You could start your very own "rat hole" like Edwards and I have....OMG we have "rat holes".

Anyone know any good therapists?

Man that is to bad but I guess after all that machining work, IFFF it was done right, it may be cheaper to by an old car and sell some of the parts. (cant believe I said part a car) just to get a good block.

^^^ Refuses to listen to counselling. Tried the gentle "BTDT, and look what happened!" method with obvious results. The song is older, but the malady lingers on.

What would he want $$ wise. I'd be happy to make it into a coffee table.

Possibly bring it to St. Charles?

good question... IDK.
Knowing that 928motorsports sells it for $700 delivered, at this point I would say just make a offer, and I will call him
