FS - 1985 928S (5 spd w/ LSD)
So I am still on the fence about turning this car into a track car, so I figured I would offer it up for sale. If the car sells, great. If not, I will most likely go down the path of gutting it and turning it into an uglyish track rat.
SOLD
Quick Details:
Year - 1985
Model - US Spec 928S (32v)
Color - Back over Burgundy (Exterior should be Silver but was repainted at some point)
Mileage - Unknown (odo show 128,928 but I don't know when it broke)
Location - Charlotte, NC
This is a rough car, both the exterior and interior need work. The black paint job was not a quality job to begin with, and now years later it is way beyond time to paint it again. Body work (front drivers side fender, passenger door and rocker, drivers side rear quarter window, and compressed rear bumper shocks) would need to be done. The interior is a match to the exterior, seats and dash need to be recovered, and in general could use some TLC.
To drive the car it does have some pending needs, the two most pressing are the timing belt (unknown when it was last changed), and the high pressure power steering line. I have done basic maintenance: brake fluid flush, cooling system flush, oil change, air filter change, and have the fluid for a transaxle fluid change but have not gotten around to it yet.
With all of the bad, I will say I think the car has promise. The engine and transaxle operate as they should. The car fires up quickly and settles to a smooth idle. On the highway it rides smooth, and makes good power all through the rev range. I am not going to leave it for sale for long, I'm not sure on a time frame, but I figure I will start stripping out the interior in a couple weeks.

Can you throw in a couple of pics of the interior?
Does the A/C work?

A/C does blow cool, but not cold. I have not topped it up yet the system yet, but it could just need some R134 (or it could need something more).
Pictures of the interior are below, but note there are a few differences:
- Steering wheel and shift boot were moved to my other car
- Tweeters are removed, I have a pair I can include
- Radio has been removed, I have two head units that can be included
- Radio clock trim piece was cut, need to be replaced (previous owner)
- Cup holders on the arm rest were removed, leaving the arm rest in need of repair

Would you drive it to NYC?

Shawn,
With an unknown number of miles on the timing belt, it would be taking a risk on 700 mile drive. I can pull the covers and check the belt for wear, but that will only tell us so much. I think the car would make it, but there is just no way to know for sure.

Yepper. Thanks. I'm only idly looking for another Shark, so don't go pulling anything apart on my behalf.

I'm biased towards 85's, but looks like a good deal for someone. GLWS.

The s3s are just so wicked when lit up. Porken pieces, a crossover, etc.

I looked at Ian's car a few weeks ago, and although I didn't drive it, the engine sounds real good and idles smoothly, clutch felt good also, I would have been interested but already own 2 '85's now- really just mainly needs some cosmetic work. A good car for the money, really IMHO to nice to convert to a race car!
