Hey Moderators: Can we get this 996 fanboy banned or something?

He keeps stopping by every couple of years bragging about how he never has to fix anything on his car since he got rid of his 928. What's the deal with that?

Good to hear from you Kyle. Hope all is well.

Yes indeed it is!!! But I don't have to do much converting, the cheap price and the willpower of a DIY 928 owner is enough to start paying attantion to all the 996s that need work and the owners are willing to dump them for a few housand $$$$. This way they can keep the 928 AND have a 996.

I will take the "***" badge and wear it proudly.

The 996 is a fantastic car and lives up to Porsche standards in every way. At 150,000 miles it will still run 0-60 in around 5 seconds. The interior is holding up fantastic. The performance still passes most things on the road today. Again like the 928 when I work on the car, design things that appear "stupid" become very apparent and you can see the genius when you can understand why and how it works.

But sadly I feel the 996 will fade away. Its not like the 928 where we had the s and the s4 and the gt/gts for years and years. The 996 changed to the 997 in a few short years and the body style is very close. I think this will push people away from the 996 as the 997 becomes of age. And at this time a 996 engine is its weak point. When you bend a valve in a 928 you may need a head. In a 996 you may need an engine. Thus I see this making the used engine supply very limited in the future. Porsche wants 15-20K for an engine at this time. More then a lot of the cars are worth. They are certainly going to be like a 928 and a "love for the car" project. But I am not sure we will have the engines. I am also not so sure there will be enough of us to have model specific vendors to where they will be able to make a living, thus not having the knowledge of your current 928 vendors like Jeanie, DR and the Rus guy (sorry I forget your name But I know you have a cool accent)
