Default Rear spoiler removal question...

I'm in the process of trying to take care of some minor rust issues before they become big rust issues and need to remove the rear spoiler.

After doing a few searched I found these:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...er-delete.html

and

http://www.porschearchives.info/pors...ler-928-s.html

Which explain the large center piece pretty well, but I can't find a good writeup on the side "wings" that are by the rear quarter windows.

Can anyone provide some guidance on how these come off?

I am having my car painted right now. The shop told me that you have to raise part of the spoiler to get to the two screws that hold it own. He figured that out after he removed the rear interior pieces.

Here is a picture. You can see the tabs.

Hi Chris,

Attachment nuts are under the interior trim which will need removal. You should look at a factory workshop manual for clarity before beginning.

Take off the entire hatch and have it repainted complete to do the rust repair right. Your paint can be matched with an electronic machine which the paint supplier will own. Take that paint to have it sprayed..
PM me for advice if you wish.

Good luck,
-Matt

Forgot to point out that the holders are outside and can not be accessed from inside of the car. Be careful when you are squeezing the spoiler in order to get to the screws.

Thanks guy. Matt - I already have the interior trim pulled from the hatch to expose the screws that hold on the main center spoiler. I'll read through the shop manuals before actually attempting to remove it.

My question was really regarding the side wings. Atari_st, your picture was what I think I have been looking for. When they say you "raise the spoiler" it looks like you litterally use some sort of trim tool to pry up the rubber to get to the screw. Hopefully, reinatallation is not too bad.

Any other tips would be appreicated. Pictures are worth 1000 words.

Hey, atari_st. Were they able to reuse your driver's side quarter window seal. Those seals are NLA for the drivers side with rear spoiler. I got a used one from 928 INTL in case mine can't be salvaged.

Reinstallation of the side wings is a chicken-fried b*tch. Fasten the retainers on the inner edge of the hatch opening first - not tight but snug. Attack the forwardmost phillips screw fastener near the front tip of the wing next. Get the phillips screw on your screwdriver, pull the spoiler material up with your other hand, hold the quarter window trim in place with your third hand, insert the screw into the nearly invisible hole and tighten until snug. The middle screw is last because the spoiler material is hardest to manipulate here. Same drill as the frontmost screw only you shouldn't have to maneuver the quarter window trim. It helps if the spoilers have been warmed by the sun. A hair dryer or a heat gun used very carefully might help as well. You may need some sort of plastic tool to pry up the spoiler skirt and taping off the car to protect the paint around your work area is a good idea.

Thanks for the advice. I got them off tonight and was thinking as I removed them that the bigger challenge was going to be getting them back on.

I assume he is going to reuse the original seals. I told my shop to tell me what I needed to order that could not be re-used. I assume he could since the car is due to me this Friday.
