Hi,
I was wondering if someone already had the same strange issue
As I have :
when popping up the headlights, sometimes my engine cuts?!?
any idea what may cause this. It's not recurrent, so only 1 out of 10 times.
could it be a short circuit in the headlight motor ? but isn't it fused ?

Gerrit
ps : it is a Porsche euro 928S of 1980

My '81 did that on the 210 underpass converging to another freeway on the way to sharktoberfest. It was very disconcerting as the 2 other 928's started pulling over behind me before turned lights off and car re-started. Have not been able to duplicate since, but think it may be the ignition switch.

My 83 US model, when I bought it in 06, would give the sensation of the e brake being pulled for a split second when the headlights were turned on - it was a severe and bizarre sensation throughout the whole car. I pulled the double relay for the lights and sprayed electrical contact cleaner on it, and the sensation was eliminated. All visible grounds (including battery ground strap, have been cleaned and/or replaced. My ignition switch has been replaced complete (mechanical and electrical portions - talk about bizarre - that's in the dictionary with a picture of the 928 ignition switch. I would like to see the tool they used to install that at the factory). I'm confident in my vehicle electrical system based on the fact that I have the same battery in the vehicle that I installed in 06 (7 years for a battery is outstanding, and I should replace it just on the principle alone). Now the only unusual symptom I have is that the cruise control will not operate at the same time the lights are turned on - even the parking lights. I have set the cruise at speeds up to 90 mph, and it will hold that speed with no problem until I switch on the parking lights, then the cruise cuts out and will not re-engage until I turn the light switch off.
Because I rarely (on purpose) drive the car after dark, its a minor annoyance, and if the headlight relay didn't cost $150 I would have replaced it long ago, but it is peculiar, and isn't that what makes these cars have character? Otherwise we would all drive Camrys...anyway, that's what my car does.

Hi folks,
thanks again for your illuminating solutions. I think I will first check and replace my headlight relay. perhaps it gives bad contact and makes too much current when activated the first time. it sounds like bad ground, As if current goes via another easier way instead of via the headlight relay.

ps : indeed, the 928's are peculiar as electrics are concerned, after 3
years I am still wrestling with the gremlins of my speedo-
odometer. Still not working even after applying several solutions
on this forum (such As soldering the rivets, checking ground....)
