Don't forget new motor mounts. They are easy at this point unless they have been changed very recently. Oops. I see in your last post you have MM's.

So I have finally stripped everything off of the top of the engine including the water bridge. In order to get to the heads do I also have to take off the timing belt and cam gears at the front of the engine? The cam towers seem to be attached to the front somehow, but I guess I was under the mistaken impression that I wouldn't have to touch the belt to do the head gasket.

You will need to remove timing belt. The cam gears enter the head/cam tower assembly, which is held in position with the TB still in place. I can't think of a way to remove heads with out pulling the belt off of the cam gears.
God progress, and good luck,
Dave

Thanks for the info! It looked like the belt had to come off, but I was holding out on the small possibility that I was just missing something. It's not as if setting the belt tension is terribly difficult, it's just that I have to hunt down a Kemph tool now. I have some more pre-natal classes with the missus tomorrow, but hopefully I can get back to this soon thereafter.

Before I went to bed yesterday I noticed this on the back of the engine. It looks like one of the pins on the flywheel is bent. Can this be bent back without worrying too much about it, or is this serious? I don't know if the pin was like this for awhile or if it got bent when the engine was removed, but I just noticed this last night. Any suggestions?

I'd try to get a new one. You know if you try to bend it back it will break. I guess you could try heating it and slowly bending it back to shape. Maybe Greg Brown will chime in. He's seen just about everything there is to see on one of these cars.

That pin is for the crank position TEST sensor. Don't even worry about it. It's worthless and does nothing

Sweet! One less thing to worry about.

There are several tension tools in the area including mine. When you get that far and I'm around you can use mine. If not we will wrangle one of the other locals to borrow theirs.

I lent mine out when I installed a Pkns'r. Never got it back. Otherwise you could have it. You might consider the Pksn'r. When you do the TB you will find parts to buy, some related to the factory tensioner. Those might help defray additional cost.

The generosity of everyone here never ceases to amaze me. Thanks so much guys! I actually got tons of people volunteering to lend me their tension tools when I did my TB/WP in the spring. As a matter of fact, it was that thread which lead to the local GTA meet that we had this spring. The community that surrounds the 928 is often even better than the car itself. Thanks again!

As I was digging fiddling around on the engine the other day, I noticed this broken connector attached to the PS cam cover. Is this where my broken AC wire hooks up to? If so, it looks like it should be a relatively easy fix.
