Default 85 928 euro vs 85 928 us

I have a US version '85 928 5spd- that is in good condition, and am very seriously considering buying a '85 Euro 5 spd in very nice condition w/ 90k miles that I looked at today.
My question is, does the price difference of $2500.00 more justify the price of the Euro vs the US car? Euro price $8500.
My US car is a driver- could use paint at some point White/Navy -some interior- seats and dash already done. C3 lightweight wheels- new clutch -radiator - I have 6500.00 invested -hoping I could get $ 6000?
Euro Car - 100 percent stock - everthing works, clutch replaced 50k mi. ago- super nice cosmetics orig. paint and interior. Bone stock
I would have to sell the US if I buy the Euro- What the best choice?

All things being equal, meaning the color combo's are agreeable on both and maintenance/condition in the same ballpark, the Euro LH is the better car for a number of reasons.

For me the most desirable 928 there is. As to price, that's a personal matter and I would pay no attention to the "market" or what people would say. A top condition Euro, not screwed up by importers, PO's or hack mechanics is a very rare car. A LOT fewer than 50 of them is my guess. With the right exhaust, one of the best sounding V8's out there.

So it comes down to you and your bank account. Will you enjoy owning/driving that car more than missing those dollars?

If it is the Euro I'm thinking of in your area, I would go with the Euro. Looks to be a nice example of the 300hp 4.7. As long as you like the color combo, I don't think you can go wrong.

Did you happen to drive the Euro? If so, how did it compare to your car?

Would you have to sell your car first? If not, you could always take some of the "good" parts off of your car and put them on the Euro. Parts such as the wheels. I think you can get that price for your car and the 85 euro you're looking at looks like a nice car and priced well. I'm not crazy about the color combination on the euro but thats just becasue of the interior color. I say Go For It!!!!

Thanks for the info guys - I am going to make a decision today about the euro if he still has it- I did not drive it yesterday -but did hear it run, sounded strong! I am a little concerned about a slight throw out bearing noise, that i heard every time the clutch pedal was depressed - a very faint noise, may or may not be anything -but I will drive today before I buy.

S2s are cool, but a S3 5-speed is more easily tuned and will be both quicker and faster (especially a '85)!

If you have already sorted out the 32V, you'll be trading down, IMO.


Put a Y-pipe and single exhaust on the S3, it will sound like a 16V...

couple thoughts......the 85 Euro S is the even more rare LH engine with twin dizzy.....the Euro will be lighter and drive slightly different.....it does not make the low end torque the 32V does, BUT it will pull stronger in higher RPM (quite a bit stronger).....another reason behind this is the euro probably has a lower rear end ratio vs the 2.2 on the USA model....

The single best "street" 928 I ever drove was a Euro S CIS (never drove the later LH version).....it just made you smile....this car was a euro 83 put in a USA 82 chassis.....

The Euro S will also hold its value much better since its far more rare here in the states

Lou, I would really avoid paying the premium on the Euro because "it's an investment". Pay it because you like it, and its worth it to you.

I've driven the CIS Euro, and it's not right for everyone. You will notice the lack of bottom end compared to your 32v probably more than you'll notice to free winding top end. It really depends on your driving style, but if you spend most of your miles south of 4500rpm, you may want to keep what you have. You won't know for sure until you drive it. Report back with your opinions after the test drive.

Just 1 point to make clear.

The Euro CIS that Iceman and Adam have driven is rated at 263 TQ. The Euro S2 is listed at 400NM which is just under 300 TQ. The US 85 32V is just over 300 ft/lbs so talk of lacking bottom end is foreign to me. My euro as I have posted many times will spin both rear wheels with ease and w/o trying, mine may be atypical.

Plus as noted above John S has made a chip for the LH Euro that raises TQ to over 330 ft/lbs and 330 bhp. So it shouldn't lack for much. It's a great car, take it for a drive, and hope it's in good shape.

Then imagine a nice exhaust.( both Adam and Ice are right though, Euro's really love the higher RPM's)

For 85 model year I see US vs Euro as a push, each has slight pro and con points. I would put the edge to US for an AT, edge to Euro for 5spd. Stock a slight edge to the Euro, modified depends on how far you go, only two cams on the Euro if you upgrade those. Both have good chip sets, with maybe the Euro having more to go.

I like my 85 Euro 5spd, but not sure I would sell a US 85 5spd to get one.

Euro is rarely going to have true mileage due to speedo swap during federalizing. Some states like Calif are going to have issues with registering a Euro.

US and Euro chassis, suspension, and wiring harnesses are either the same or compatible with minor changes. Question I've pondered a few times is if I found a nice 85/86 roller what engine would I put in it, since I have both around. I like the spider style intake, and a high lift cam, so good chance I would opt for a Euro hybrid motor, Euro S intake and heads on US short block.

thanks for all the input guys, sounds like a lot good pros and cons for both cars- I am going up there and this time drive the Drive the car - one thing is for sure -my US car will never equal this Euro's cosmetic condition which is outstanding. On the other hand - I do know what I have with my US car -which is reliable, and I can use it daily if I wanted, the Euro's paint and interior is so nice to the point, that I wouldn't use as much and would be inclined to "preserve it"

The euro S2, 4,7 - 16v with the 10,4:1 engine is far superior. I have had a few of these, and with the right exhaust they sound fantastic.

Now I have the holy grail of the S2's, the 86, with the S4 underpinnings and drivetrain, but with the 16v 4,7 - 310hp engine. Its a No-sunroof car. Love it.
