Noooo... Salvage title in CarFax history - How affects price?

The title was issued in 1993. I doubt if at the time it took much to get insurance companies to total out a 928. Repair costs must have been horrific.

No shortage of complaints against Carfax for false information. Interesting that AutoCheck shows no accident issues.
I also find it interesting that a four wheel alignment shows up on Carfax along with a link to the shop that did it. So do shops pay Carfax some kind of fee for the advertising on each car they work on? If you take your car in for a stone chip touch up that you pay for out of your own pocket, it can now show up on Carfax as an accident repair?
That's a nice clean looking 928 inside and out. I wouldn't drop the price at all. Be honest and mention that AutoCheck shows no accident damage while CarFax does. Then mention you can find no signs of accident damage and have no problems with a PPI being done.

Nice car. I always say the salvage title means nothing to me if I am aware of no issues, but its makes it much harder to sell to other people that use labels as their process to determine good/bad instead of rational self-thought.

Is it possible that this car was stolen and recovered after the insurance company had paid off the owner? Does the car become salvage, when this happens or does the insurance company retain the title and just auction the car off? Can an insurance company auction a car off without a salvage title?
I have no idea what the answer to these questions is....
I've seen so many Porsches that were welded together out of two cars.....unless I knew exactly what reason a car had a salvage title.....I'd pass. Get someone that really knows these cars to look at it. Should be simple to figure out. Body/chassis damage is easy to find. Water damage is simple to detect.
I guarantee you could not "hide" a car that had been salvaged from one of these two, from me.
In my opinion, currently, there's just too many of these things out there for sale, to buy one with a huge question mark. Twenty years from now....it will be a different story.

My 88 has a 'rebuilt' title. PO owned a Body shop and did all of the Porsche dealer work here in Dallas. Car had an under hood fire when it was still fairly new.
As far as project cars go, I'd rather buy a lightly damaged car with a salvage title that one that "ran when parked" in a field 10 years ago. At least you know that the PO was driving it recently and gave enough #### to insure it.

I appreciate all the viewpoints, guys. I was having a bit of a freak out.
If I'd wanted an easy anything I would have chosen a different car. But to be quite honest, if the car was easy... or even popular in the general sense... I wouldn't love it half as much.

Another consideration if you have a salvage title car is that your insurance company is going to pay "fair market value" in the event of a loss. Fair market value for a car with a salvage title is next to zero, so don't pay for "full coverage" insurance 'cause you're not going to get anything back.
