Friday time-killer: 928 Engine-Transmission Production Numbers, 1982-1995

First ROW GT in PET data is WP0ZZZ92ZKS841332. Thats very long way from KS840364 in VIN numbers but not in calendar days. Next thing to check is actual gearbox if its G28/55 or G28/12. If its G28/55 and serial number is '89 MY and close to same as in CS made in same period then it must be original. Another useful check is to get certificate from Porsche to see what it says. Exact engine number is also interesting. Is it M28/41 SP or just M28/41.
Erkka, have you spotted KS840170?
Into the PET, it is indicated with a M28/41 and a G28/55 also. Car delivered in Spain.

I have seen it in option list. There were few odd ones over the years which I have noticed. Without having actual car to study its impossible to say if those odities are just errors in PET database or actual strange combinations. I'm sure factory had many experiments running around over the years but they were possibly build on older body etc. Many of them should have stayed in experimental department and thus PET should not know about them.

The recent kerfuffle about M28.11/12 motors for sale got me to thinking about exactly how uncommon they may be. And I had two hours to kill while all three kids were getting the biannual dental maintenance. Which led to some tedious editing and COUNTIFfing in Excel.
I don't recall seeing this data presented in this manner before, perhaps I missed it. Anyway, it's a list of the production numbers of each engine and transmission type from 1982 to 1995 (AFAIK the data doesn't exist for '78-81) . There are a few glitches in the dataset where there was no engine code info for a given car (or where there was just a 'C' or an 'M'), and a couple of cars with 'automatic' engines mated to a 5-speed, which may be real or is just a typo.
You can see the 9 Clusbport cars (M28.41/G28.55), for instance.
Should be self-explanatory, some combos are US. only, some are ROW-only, some are both.
If anyone really cares, it would be relatively simple to break it out by country of origin for the ROW cars, but I doubt anyone cares.
Anyway, FWIW:

based on your numbers about 24% of all 928s-es are manual and about 26% of all s4's?
thats quite different from the assumption on Wikipedia that 10-15% are manuals.
