Default Leeroy Update 7.31.2013

Leeroy. Always reliable. Never left me stranded, even when I got home with a throw out bearing that was not.... Throwing out any more.

Had to go up to LA, so stopped by to see Tom at 928intl for the S4 valence he had. Talked to Tom for a while, mentioned how reliable Leeroy has been for everyone, and drove off west to Torrance.

Well, I ate my words. And a power Bar. While waiting for a Tow truck.

The Line from the tank to the pump seems to have collapsed. This is either the reason or the effect from the pump seizing tight.

At first I thought, well, I'll just undo the leads and reverse the pump, as this has worked before when I got one 928 going 40 miles from... Anywhere. But I had better tools in that car then. Complacency breeds... Tow trucks.

Could not get to the 12V lead on the pump with the tools I had. While jostling everything the fuel line from the pump sprang a leak. I kid you not.

So at this point I am thinking I can still reverse and release the pump, but it will leak until I get somewhere like Greg's in Fullerton. I am hassling with the 12V lead hoping I can get a grip on it......

Laying on the ground I realized the 110 South ramp to the 405 South is actually an ant hill. Also watched a spider crawl towards me that was the largest I ever saw. I introduced myself as I got off the ground and bid adieu. Stopped working on car and got on the phone.

Called friends, called Tow truck, and sent it to Greg.

He has Leeroy now. As always our guy Greg is busy so Leeroy will be there for a while, which is an okay thing. This PART of the car will be properly dealt with, so it will not affect future owners. If the line was collapsing because of a vac problem on the tank, then I'll fix that too. The Screen may be cludged. It happens.

Recently I attached the guide tube to the bell housing as it should be so the clutch is better. I loosened the spring on the Barn Door MAF so it really woke the car up even more. With that, the advanced timing, and the Exhaust its quite a fast early LJet.

I have gotten home 20 miles with one connected tie rod, and 5 miles on just rims.

This was minor.

Except for the spider.

But not on fire. If that fuel line was bad, what about the others? Would have been ironic for Leeroy, borne of a fuel incident, to go up in flames himself.

Last time I had the car, before you and before it sat, I replaced a lot of the engine bay fuel lines.

No, I live in San Diego. I was pretty far but luckily I have old friends ready to help from the old days when SoCal was a hotbed of 928 activity. Many have moved on but many of us stay in touch.
