Default S4 intake adapting to S3 block

just a thought. i hear you can adapt the s4 intake and ditch the pipe organ monstrosity. what all would you need? intake, throttle cable bracket thing, the little cable wheel........ anything else?

I thought that the Organ pipe system was actually better/more efficient compared to the S4 system?

Throttle body.....

You also have to remove some material on the heads from what I understand. Talk to Abby, he's done this modification.

ISV via mega squirt, like i do now. And set one of the outputs to control the flappy.

S3 motor or s4 motor, I got it covered.

You need to cut two bosses off the block, heads are untouched.

you need the complete intake with the TB on the bottom,
the throttle pulley which mounts to the back of the block,
the throttle quadrant which bolts to the intake,
the throttle cables which go to the pedal and to the TB.

I am not so sure the S4 intake is that great of an idea for your needs. Its a worse compromise than the S3 intake. The S3 could be made a bit better, from the information Porken has provided, by changing the way the air enters the main pipe and gets into the runners.

Oh.. OK, then why not just go with ITB's, if I were to redo the Intake and had the electronics covered as you, that would be my choice.

I agree.........given the excellent HP numbers from an S3 engine with smaller valves clearly the S4 intake is a greater restriction than everyone thinks...

improved options are limited.....an ITB setup is custom and pricey....and there really isn't anything else out there..... I do think the euro intake flows better than S4, possibly S3....but who knows....

Isn't there a BMW ITB that will bolt right up to a 5.0 ?

Yeah I was just looking at a set ~ $500 bucks, but the intake side is oval, so an adapter would be required. Would be better off on a custom stack me thinks.

Thanks

Dave

Colin,

Thanks for the clarification. I knew that there were some bosses to be removed, I just wasn't clear on where they are found. In fact, I'm still not totally clear about it. Any chance you can post a pic that shows the offending bosses?

Thanks
