Default Here's what you got yourself into...

1) You will be dealing with some of the smartest Porsche 928 people on earth
2) Most will go the extra mile to help you out.
3) You will learn that there's no special magic to repairing a 928, just some common sense, good tools and a plan
4) You end up feeling good everytime a problem is solved.
5) And last... you get to drive a car that not only turns heads but one you "built" with your two hands....that is ( or could be) going up in value, kind of like getting paid to have fun.

There're a couple of sets of injectors that you haven't experienced with Blue Max (MB style mechanical CIS) and the 86.5 (Bosch with O-rings top and bottom}.

80 thru 84 USA has L-Jet, so they use an electric injector, but it is connected to the rail with a 50mm length of high pressure fuel hose instead of an O-ring. That means it has a male searated hose fitting coming out the top of it. Hard to find replacements. They do use an O-ring to mount to the intake manifold, but a hose up top.

84 Euro has same physical injector setup, with an LH-Jet brain like later years, but those injectors have a different impedance than L-jets. Similar, not a style that seems to have been used much as the electronic injection systems took off on later years.

There are a bunch of 944 and 951 injectors with similar physical setup, but I don't know if any are cross compatible with 928.

Ed, you clearly need an L-Jet car, or 84 Euro so you can correct this gap!

I would suggest that you will need to develop more patience. You can wring off virtually any fastener in the car if you just turn it till it breaks. It will cost a surprising amount of money to have a professional mechanic make a house call - you will soon get tired of paying $100 every time that you get impatient with a fastener...

Get a feel for how much pressure it takes to break a fastener, and stop before you apply that much. Use the penetrant, tap on the fastener, wait, try again, use the penetrant, tap on it, try, apply heat, use penetrant, tap on it, try, etc., etc., until the fastener gives up and comes out.

Ha Chris! Actually, after spending a few years working on that 86, with an engine bay so tight I couldn't even fit an envelope in there sideways, I am enjoying the elegance and simplicity of the CIS, 16v cars! Also, I do remember my first shark - an 84 of the same color as that posted at the beginning of this thread - that was a fantastic car. LH if I recall? Fortunately (or not) I never had to work on the injectors, so yes, I do have a knowledge gap there.

My next shark will likely be an S4, considered by many to be the best of breed of these wonderful machines But - Blumaxx stays with me regardless.

Great looking car. Was there a lot of varnish in the fuel tank? There is a small screw on the bottom of the fuel sender unit and if you take it off the yellowish plastic piece will come off... if there isn't varnish holding it on. Yours looks like mine did when I first took it out and under the cap was a large layer of that crap. Mine was really bad and I just bought a new one.

Good luck with the car! Would love to see video of its first start!

tons of varnish, it took 3 power washing treatments and some stay-bil but it all came out eventually. and unfortunately the fastener at the bottom is completely destroyed but I will take a look at it when I get the chance.

I'm right there with ya. This was my tank before I took it to a radiator tank to be cleaned. I cant seem to find the pictures of my fuel sender unit but when I took the bottom off it was pretty much glued on with the varnish. Was about 1/2" thick. I would suggest to start looking for a new one.

I tried to test my fuel system out before knowing it was like this and my return port was blocked so it just build pressure and blew the front face of my fuel pump! Lesson learned haha.

We need a sharp picture from a couple angles to make a good suggestion on the bolt, but keep it soaked in PB blaster in the mean time.

I would not count on it being as cheap as $100 to have somebody remove that bolt as a house call, unless you convince them its a Rambler and not a Porsche.

Man, it has been too long since I have worked on this car. But prepping for grad school and a possible move across the country have made it hard to find time to get anything significant done. I have now:
replaced the fuel lines
replaced the in tank fuel level sender
all of the fuses
new bolts on the intake
changed 95% of the fluids (breaks and power steering still need to be done)
new fuel pump, new fuel filter
new wiring to fuel pump and filter (old wires were so corroded and broken I just replaced them.)
new gaskets and boots for most of the top side of the engine
New engine wiring harness on the way from 928 GT
New fuel injector wiring as well
Ripped out the old after market stereo (it didn't work and the wiring was crap)
replaced all of the lights

I was all ready to put new injectors in and finally finish this when my injectors exploded while being re flowed at a shop in Des Monies. Anyone have some i1980-1984 injectors they could part with?

Thanks as always gentlemen
