Hi Matt, love the car and a great inspiration. I will use some of your ideas. You mentioned that you were going to race the car, are you racing the car this year? It already has a race number!
Also are you still liking the power steering delete ? And can I assume that all/most 928 racers delete the power steering?
Thanks,
Bob

Yes I will take the car to a few DE days but not beat on it. Mostly I enjoy it on the back roads and taking care of the car. I like it too much to abuse it.
I would never want the power steering back in the car. It is perfect for me w/o it. The feel is great.
Thanks again.

Finally put some light seats and a Momo wheel in the car
What a difference a steering wheel makes. Shaved over 20 lbs, forget the number now. The new seats with mount bracket are about 24 lbs ea and the old seats are 34 lbs. The wheel saved about 2.5 lbs iirc.
Next i will remove the steel dash, drill many evenly spaced 2.125" holes in it (they're heavy) and recover it in thin foam and leather. Also it gets hot under my right foot from exhaust on longer trips while driving shoe less, so i will add a little foil heat insulation.
Old school tie down straps in the rear and Lexan rear quarter glass is in the works but not installed. I need to drill the new hood hinges but haven't had the time. Going back to the Porsche lug nuts as they are considerably lighter. Wheel will be removed, blasted and refinished a little different and the rear of the car needs lowering.
The front bumper cover will come off and bumper will be drilled (stock now) along with the driving light mods for and estimated savings to get this Porsche into the 25XX lbs club.
Currently 2640 lbs with a little fuel..runs excellent and very quick.
Made Daily Turismo a few weeks ago, old news to us.

Yes will do Ken,
Taking my 12 year old Son Matthew Karting (he's very, very quick !)
But I can't wait to drive the RS.
Thanks again my fellow Porschephile and have a great weekend !
EDIT:
Matthew raced in the 16 year old and up adult class (at 12 years old) today after only 5 visits to Mid Altantic Grand Prix (Newcastle DE) due to how quick he is.
He won every race against adults today! (including me, 3rd ) and had fastest lap of the day!
3rd fastest Adult lap of the week and 1.5 secs from the record Adult lap time at this very technical track !
Au naturale !

We all know that lightening any car helps it accelerate quicker, handle and brake better. But i'd like to have real evidence on the improved acceleration.
A 1933 ERA B type GP racing car (1488cc SC'd) (4 speed pre selector trans) with Max power of only166 BHP @ 6500 rpm could and still can accelerate to 60mph in 4.8 seconds, 11 sec to 100. Got 3-4 mpg. Power to weight is 207 BHP per ton. Top speed is 135 mph so that says a little about the final drive..
That's quicker than a GTS iirc..
I'm going to ask Stan (Mr. Merlin) to race me in a straight line with his Euro S.
I rode in another rennlisters '83 Euro S once and it seemed to accelerate about the same as my RS does.
I'm curious if my (basically stock motor) US '83S could hang with Stan's twin dizzy Euro up to 70. I hope he will.
Be interesting to know..

Hey Matt, you said, I'm going to ask Stan (Mr. Merlin) to race me in a straight line with his Euro S.
Thats what race tracks are for, go out and spank some 911s... thats the real test for a 928RS
I saw that you were looking at the 79 in NY, any news on that? If you are looking to go faster than what you have now, probably not the best car for that.

I got a Go Pro to get whatever happens on video.
I know i can spank many an air cooled 911 because i drove an SC and 3.2L for years.
I raced a high compression non sunroof '85 Euro 911 3.2 Carrera before the lightness mods.
We slowly followed one another down Ridge Pike form Don Rosen Porsche and onto the ramp to I476 and nailed it. I overtook him decisively.
The owner of that white Euro is a seasoned Porsche salesman (Eric) and he wasn't too happy !
There's no replacement for displacement !

What was the most catastrophic failure of parts/components?
No failures yet, it's a Porsche and extremely reliable. (touch wood)

Sorry for the late response Shawn,
Since I left the pins out i didn't consider that the car's failure but thanks for reminding me
RS Stuff:
I'm drawing up a front spoiler/splitter to be manufactured in fiberglass or CF for early 928s without S spoiler.

I ran manual steering in a 944 Turbo S I had. Took the power rack apart, a change in side and gobs of wheel bearing grease. I hope you guys that are draining the fluid out of the 928 racks are also stuffing it full of grease, as the removal of steering fluid will be like running the pinion dry.

Thanks Tony, that lawn mower battery would save me another 20 lbs..
Fred, i concur.
Bought a new (to me) set of wheels and Yokohamas, what do you guys think?
Of course the front end is now high because i jacked her up but boy do these wheels class up the car.
