That's not gonna make it go faster.

Hit a buck forty on a deserted straight. Ran out of road, but right before I backed off it shifted to 4th (auto). Plenty left. Had a Mustang Bullitt that I hit the same speed, not near as solid as the 928, then there was a similar speed in my Roadrunner when I was 16, and imagine the handling of that car. Front end was floating all over the place.

Averaged 131 between two cities 57 miles apart. Not the fastest I've driven, but the longest - 26 minutes - I've driven "that" fast. Absolutely no problems. However, I've now reached the age where 80 is the new 120!

Do you hear right there at 80mph, the supercharger belt slipped. Sounds like a lot of knocks too

143 on GPS on the backstraight at Road America. Smooth through the kink, bury the pedal and head for Canada Corner in a smooth arc. Followed by toasty brakes...

Just getting started with my 84 928S . She does 100 easy. But I need new cv boots so I'm not pushing. I had a 91 Kawasaki ZX11 and took that to 190 on the speedo. I figure I was going 175-178. I sat up at around 125 and the blast almost blew me off the seat.

With the 1989 CS, 270 km\h on the needle, 264 km\h on the electronic. I wasn't flat out but that was enough for me. I was alone on an Autobahn.
The acceleration above 220 is still impressive.

The previous owner claimed he had 300 km\h on the needle and 288 km\h on the electronic.

With my new to me S4, I have reached 180 km\h, the speed where the car awakes. I will return to Germany when I will have done a lot of work on the car, to be sure of its condition.

200 to 220 km\h is a comfortable cruise speed in Germany. You can't do better than 130km\h in France nowadays...

Its funny to test the speed limit of a car( or yours...), but the best drive I have had so far into a 928 was on a small twisty moutain road into the Alps. I haven't reached 100 km\h but it was pure fun!

160+ mph, quite often, however at that speed you need to be checking for sand dunes drifting across the road and camels which can often blend into the background.

However, car is now in a container being shipped back to UK, so very unlikely to hit those speeds again unless I do a few road trips to Germany.

Last year, while homebound on the German Autobahn, on a clear stretch, I saw 233 km/h flicker past on the GPS, while still accelerating, so reckon a true 235 km/h (147 mph) is my max so far. Had to brake for a 80 km/h limit curve right after - attempting it at 235 km/h would probably have been ambitious, even in a 928..

No stability problems or any other drama, except things do start to move past quickly at those speeds.

Regards,
Erling

1.2 in a T-38 @ 35000 feet
1.2 in a Tornado @ 500 feet (now that was fun )
283 km/h (on the speedo) in my GTS on a nice stretch of A7 (about 177 MPH)

5-spd 1993 GTS - had it up to 140mph on the speedo on a private road in the UK... too many other users to attempt higher speeds at the time
the GT - hit the limiter in 5th when it had the original GT engine while on the autobahn in Germany, then it did it again with the GTS engine, but it just happened quicker
the S2 - off the clock while on the autobahn from Koln to Aachen so 160mph indicated...
