Default New 928 owner (UK) (+ Springsteen at Wembley, doesn't get any better!)

Hi, new first time owner - 1982 928S manual (300bhp) in moss green with mint green leather interior and sunroof.

Owned her a couple of weeks now - i just couldn't resist any longer as values in the UK are ridiculously low for these older models. Decided on joint ownership with a mate as it's not a daily driver, and the jobs always seem to maintain momentum with two, so i'm looking forward to it.
£2k for a manual car with about 80k miles and a long test certificate - even if the paint and interior are pretty rough but she seems in rude health. Not sure that moss on mint is the best combo of greens, but i much prefer it to brown or black from this era, and it needs a lot of work anyway so the shade of green may get changed to a better match with the moss exterior in the end as i'll have to replace various interior parts with none matching spares.

She's a bit of an eyesore compared to most that get shown on here, but to be honest i kind of like that - mechanically (fairly) sound and intimidating, she can be used as intended rather than molly-coddled. So this is going to be an exercise in running a 928 on a budget, maximising good used spares and always rebuild/repair rather than replace if at all possible. Fabulous forum by the way, i'm always a fan of these but the Rennlist 928 pages are incredible (i must have spent 40+ hours on here so far!).

Running an Alfa 166 3.0 Super as a daily driver (another hugely under-valued car over here). The 928 is the next part of personal collection that includes a 1964 Land Rover S2a (awaiting a full rebuild and a Rover/Buick V8 conversion) and a barn find 1937 12 Rover Sports Saloon hiding in the garage. Just searching for the right 1930s-1950s commercial vehicle then i think the collection will be complete!

...and to top it all, saw Springsteen last night (only my second time i'm ashamed to say) - 3hrs 10mins of pure joy. Wrecking Ball tour, but we saw him last year and this is the return leg, so he did the whole of Darkness on the Edge of Town in sequence, without stopping as a special treat (only the second time ever apparently). How does Bruce sustain that level of energy - just incredible. Mind you 71,000 adoring fans calling your name all evening probably generates a fair adrenalin rush, he certainly looks good on it.

Suddenly middle age is feeling OK.

At this rate it won't be too long before someone buys a 928 for the cost of a tank of fuel!

Good luck with the new purchase- hopefully you wil be able to bring this one back to full glory.

Regards

Fred

Interior looks better than it did in the seller's photos. I f you can keep Alfa's and Series 2 on the road this one shouldn't be problem.
I guess you are already on the 928org listserv?

All you need now is a summer to enjoy it.

Nice to see another UK car being rescued! always felt a little "alone" over here compared to the amazing support USA owners get! Absolutely loving the colour scheme, I chickened out eventually and went for Guards Red but with a black Pasha interior!
