Default Button willow with my shark

Decided to take my 87 auto to the track, fathers car could not make it but thankfully I HAD a 928 that runs. Yes, HAD... first session was really good! Griped well and preformed amazing!!! Came in after first session and everything seemed fine, turn off car and smelled radiator fluid and saw smoke, maybe it's spitting out what it did not need? It did NOT overheat on track. 1 hour later, car will NOT even crank.. All electrical works, battered has 12v and even tried to jump start it. Nothing.. Turn the key and all I hear is relay "click"
Won't even try to turn over. I also disconnected and connected the14 pin connector. Still nothing.
I have fuel in car so it's not that. Please help, at track and want to get back out there!!!

Starter motor is not turning?

Do you have good voltage at the jump post?

If you hear the starter relay click but the starter does not turn at all, I would first check that the wires at the starter are snug. There is battery and two other large wires on one post (30) and the small yellow signal wire to solenoid (via the 14-pin connector). Also, there are two ground wires, one that goes to the starter housing and another that goes inside the starter - I once found that loose on George Suennen's car when the starter would not turn even though we could hear the relay.

All was snug, had to jump the solenoid, it runs!!! But only with jumping solenoid it starts, funny feeling if I turn off car ill have to start it this way each time.
If we keep jumping it like this, can it be problem?
Can solenoid be replaced without starter?

If you jump down at the starter and it turns over, it means the yellow wire or the relay have an issue. The solenoid is what kicks in the gear and provides power to the motor to rotate. Start with the relay. Just cause it clicks doesn't mean it is switching electricity. Only that the coil is pulling in.

What relay can I swap it with?

Yes, of course, 69gaugeman is right - we should always check the relay first. It's a standard "53".

The starter is relay XIV.

You can substitute from:

VIII - defroster
X - HVAC blower
XII - horn

If another 53 swapped in does not do the trick, a test to see if the yellow wire is intact would be to pull the starter relay and use a small jumper wire just briefly across the starter relay socket, pin 87 to 30. The starter should turn.

There could be other issues, such as the ignition switch, but that's less likely.

Substituted, nothing. Must be the yellow wire.

What was the end solution?

Relay, wire, or 14pin connector?

I thought you were coaching him on this fix and driving. Since I saw you didn't know I figured Kibort had to be doing the coaching.
