I have the same issue on my 87. Thought it was the bulb... what is this switch you speak of? How to test it?

I don't know if it can be tested, as I remember opening it appeared impossible, YMMV. Driver side of transmission. You have remove the selector arm to access the elect. connector, which is locked in place by the white circular device. It may be brittle. Be careful when applying pressure turning it or the locking tabs will break.

I'm Canadian. Here since 1994, still talkin' like a Canuck.
BTW, I played with the trip reset a little more and now my green D stays lit all the time. I love 928 wiring. It's the only car that can fix itself.
