thx everyone for all your inputs.........Im evaluating the situation and will make a decision soon.

I dont have access to a welder and cant weld anyway as well we have some major flooding in the area so getting dry ice may be an issue............I do have a dremel and chisel

I went through 3 dremel type grinding wheels and although 1/2 way through the race wont release from the spindle......off to the store for more wheels and continue the quest.

ok....the race is off the spindle.......I did cut it open, hammered on it with chisel then pulled with the bearing seperator tool. Its obvious the race was spinning on the spindle and left a deposit of material which is coming off with the dremel.

My next question is when dry fitting the new bearing how tight should it be?

The bearing should JUST slide on . Did you cut in to the seal area ? A small cut in the area where the bearing sits is not a issue .

Malcolm you need a new spindle,
I wouldnt be fitting a good bearing to the messed up surface.

That spindle goes in the game over box.

While you have the front jacked up,
remove the other hub and inspect the inner surface of its spindle,
also inspect the bearings as they may also need to be replaced,
along with the grease seal.

If the other spindle bearing seat is also loose it might be time to replace both of them

Should be "snug". Some friction but goes on with firm hand pressure. It needs to fit square against the seal area shoulder, absolutely can not rock at all. Ultimately it can't rotate on the spindle when the bearing is loaded.

JB weld will not last for that repair. That is a stone polished area for the seal to rid on. Any nics on it will tear the seal up.
Plus the stress risers that it has added are not good.

Please replace that spindle!

while the weekend is here check the other side,
you can order a used spindle from 928 INTL,
and if you need both sides now is the time.

I did think you were joking about trying to make the damaged spindle last till winter....

I do have the passenger side wheel off and shall further inspect today.

Not sure 928 Intl have a used spindle........I'll call Mon.

Is there a write up on R&R the spindle? I still struggle with search function.

Malcolm,

If you have the wheels off I hope you are on high ground!

Trust you are safe from the flooding in Calgary.

Regards

Fred

Malcolm--

Pop the tie rod off, and the two balljoints. Use a spreader rather then a pickle-fork and you'll save the runner bits. New Audi boot for the upper balljoint when you order the spindle. New lower balljoint if it's at all loose, ditto on the tie rod and end. The ABS pickup comes off first. The steering arm comes off if the replacement spindle doesn't have one.

Assembly is the reverse of disassembly... Then an alignment check.

They are on MaCloud trail aren't they? I am pretty sure they are high enough. Nobody was near the downtown core yesterday. My daughter lives in the SW but fortunately is high enough. A few blocks down, the river can be seen in the streets...
