If someone didn't own a porsche and was looking for a new one I think the Cayman (S) would be a great choice. As mentioned in a previous thread, I was at the dealer recently checking everything out and the Cayman S was my favorite interior of all the Porsche's and the reviews have been great. So good luck to Doug with his decision.

Some of us have driven cars a lot better than Caymans. Have you driven a real nice Euro LH?

Cayman 275bhp 213 tq 0-60 5.4sec

Cayman S 325bhp 273tq 0-60 4.7sec

LH Euro 326bhp 330tq 0-60 5.2sec

.............height.......width ....... weight
cayman's 51 .........70.9 ........2,900

LH Euro 50.47.......72.27.......3300

The 928 is wider, slightly lower, and has the 50-50 weight distribution and will handle more than any good driver here can dish out. So if equipped with modern wide wheels/tires, JS's upgraded Eprom, it will thrill just as well as a Cayman imo. Plus it sounds better and looks better inside and out.

The cayman has a weight advantage, but I'll take a V8 anyday.

EDIT: If I were to spend in the nieghborhood of Cayman's price tag on a new car right now, it would probably be a new Z/28.

You own one of the best 928's made, in the Euro. And it has Pascha, too! No brainer IMO.

I probably will market the convertible first and see what happens. Ultimately, one should probably go. I just won't have the time for 3 sports cars even though owning the 928's will be cheap from here out. Classic car registration and insurance costs almost nothing. Plus, my daily work car is a Mini Countryman S which is like owning another sports car. It is a blast to drive.
The '79 will also come with tons of spare stuff from some prior cars that were parted.

Also, I am not purchasing a new Cayman. Too much depreciation for my taste.

It really isn't that hard to find another convertible, your's is still a work in progress, so the vert would go as my choice. If its closer to being ready, buy a lift and stack so you can drive the vert during nice part of the year and then sell to some snowbird to take south for the winter.

Selling a car, lots of opportunity for regrets.
Buying a lift, not many who don't like it a lot.

BTW I've always found it reasonable to rent a convertible for a weekend or a week rather than own one and spend 50 weeks out of the year with the top up.

No, my 83 Euro S is a CIS car but with headers and the 3" exhaust the power is comparable.

I bought an '07 cayman for my wife's DD to replace an '88 S4 because I wanted her to have the newer technology. Its a great car. Doug will not be disapointed.

I am guessing you have put a bunch of time, effort, and money into the Convertible that you will not recover if you sell it. So keep the Vert and then you will have 2 very different cars

Ill take the convertible for 500 dollars :P

5 cars for 2 people, I understand your position. Especially if the hauler car is the Mini which equals to a DD. Don't forget that when your kids get older they need a car too, but I do not suggest them driving any Porsche until they are not in the $$$$$ insurance range.

So the Mini is your DD while the Cayman is your wife's DD. That being said, it would be nice to have a 928 convertible as a DD regardless of manual or auto while keeping the Mini as a hauler/family car.

The wife is not interested in cars and has a large SUV as her driver/hauler. Whatever I do is my choice alone. My wife has no interest in cars. I have decided to get the vert assembled and then try to sell it via EBAy unless someone here is interested. Drove the Euro tonight and I just can't see selling it right now unless I get all the money. Love the classic lines, Pascha interior and the power. Laid a line of smoke with the 295 rear tires in 2nd gear

Doug,
Love the 84!!!

I'd ****** it up if I had the room. Course Sean would be even more pissed at me for not getting the 79 running yet....

Almost a year later and I have been dragging my feet. Between the Mini and the Cayman S, I have had very little time for the other 2. Got a little more assembly work done on the vert (very little) and I only put a few miles on the Euro S. If you feel like you need to comment negatively on my cars or prices, please do so in a PM. I really don't wish for this to turn into an online fight. I do not need to sell either car, I just don't have the time for all of them. Both cars are stored inside my garages at all times. Any questions, PM me.

The convertible I purchased and had shipped from CA. The paint was poor and the front bumper cover was cracked. I purchased some Jacamond body parts and had them installed and had the whole car freshly painted. The paint job is really nice. Also had the top re-sewn and a new rear window put in. Swapped out the wheels for MY02s. The car fires right up and shifts with no synchro issues. It has the leather seats from my Euro S which are in very nice condition. The car would come with lots of extra parts. Here is a thread on the car https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...cabriolet.html
Most of the lights and lenses are now installed. The car has new door seals needing to be installed. Mechanically it is nice and drives nice. Oil pan gasket is seeping but comes with a new silicone gasket. Also have new ball joints and steering rack boots to be installed. I don't like to add up my costs, but i am probablty into it for $14,000+. The only thing needed to complete it is labor to finish. Asking $9700. FYI, it is still under a clean CA title because I could not register it when I first received it because of the broken front turn signal. I have nice replacement s4 front signals as well as some Euro H4 headlights for it.

On the Euro S I purchased it years ago with a fresh bare metal paint job and recent head gasket work, newly rebuilt AC and a new aluminum radiator. I proceeded to blow the timing belt soon after purchase. Fearing the worst, I removed the motor expecting major issues. I got lucky..... as discusseed here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...erference.html
I proceeded to replace most everything with the motor out....all gaskets and seals, plugs and plug wires, clutch master and slave, starter, water pump, motor mounts, timing belt.....Cosmetically, I picked up some Carrera wheels, a brand new OEM factory leather dash from 928 Intl and swapped in the Pascha seats as pictured. The car runs great. What it needs: I put in a rebuilt T/O bearing when doing the clutch and it now makes noise. Works fine, just makes noise. I now have a brand new OEM T/O bearing(probably the last available in the world). The trans shifts very well. The only issue is that you can't downshift to 1st while moving. All other upshifts and downshifts are great. However, the car will come with a 45k mile G28-11 trans and torque tube to swap to with the new T/O bearing. One of the boots on the lower ball joints is torn so I will include new OEM lower ball joints. With this car, you can have the option of the origianl leather seats if you don't like the Pascha. If I sell the vert, I am keeping the Pascha. I will also give you a choice of the Carrera wheels pictured on the car or a spare set of MY02s that I have. Not both sets, just a choice of one or the other. Currently the AC blows very cold, but it does have magic blower syndrome. Also, it needs an alignment. I have been trying to settle on an optimal ride height and was not going to align it until I do. Asking $16000 for this car with the extra trans etc....I have many pictures of the car when it was getting stripped and painted as well as my motor pull on it.

I LOVE the Euro 928!!! You've done an excellent job with that car!! Let me ask though, do you have any pics to share of your new Cayman?? I got the pleasure of driving a Cayman S last summer, and the car blew me away. It was an amazing car all around! I have even considered buying one to add to my garage!

Sorry, no pics of the Cayman S. Basically an '06 in Arctic Silver with natural brown leather interior and 19" wheels.
