Default Wires #4 and #10 on 14-pin connector

These two wires are completely bad and I have never seen wires in this condition. They are completely crumbling throughout the harness and cannot possibly have been allowing current to pass. I will need to figure out a solution to work around them. I am not interested in pulling the engine harness to rebuild it just yet. I was thinking i could simply rewire these two items outside the harness for now. Amazingly, my 14-pin connector is GOOD. Problem is, many of the wires have lost insulation near the pins and will all need redoing a bit. Anyway...about these two wires...

#4 wire is one that goes to the oil pressure sender. Where is the oil pressure sender on the engine?

#10 wire is "starter to resistor". Pretty sure I'll find this guy originating at the starter? It's so bad I cannot even tell what guage it is. I am guessing maybe 16??

#4: Look up under the car, beside the oil filter, this is there:

#10, starter relay wire?

oil pressure sender is in front of the oil filter ,
the resistors could be on the right side fenderwell under the hot post,
or the left side in front of the PS reservoir.

You may be able to pull the new wire through the harness solder the new wire to the old one then pull the new wire through,
you may have to cut the sheathing at each junction to do this procedure

Default Thanks!

Great feedback. These wires are literally crumbling into pieces, so I am certain i cannot use the old to pull the new one through. Bummer. I cut back the cover hoping to find good wire a few inches in but no dice. The #10 literally fell apart. #4 also had it's insulation falling off with movement. But the car seems to have no evidence that either wire was not working. It starts and runs fine and the oil pressure guage works. (or it did before I started messing around with the connector and these bad looking wires) I hate it when I start innocently poking around at something and open a big can of worms!

Chuck,

Only two wires were crumbling? I had 5 wires with no insulation on them at all for about 3 inches- where the insulation remained under the shrink sleeve cover it was deficient as rubber and sort of cracked as I put a knife through it to strip back- your car is 10 years older than mine. Still it gets quite hot in Florida [but not 44C!].

To get me away temporarily I cut back the 5 offending cables. I opened the wiring diagram showing the 14 pin connector, made a note of the cables and checked the positions in the connector aligned as per wiring diagram- on some wires it was difficult to tell what the colour was.

I then disassembled the connector wires, used my soldering iron to remove the nipples from the wires I removed, fluxed the nipples, soldered new lengths of cable onto the nipples and then reassembled the 14 pin connector. After that reestablished continuity with each cable. This was a temporary fix.

I hope to install a new harness I intend to build with the help of my friends in Dubai who are now experts on this.

Regards

Fred

Yes...just two wires were falling apart. Cannot even tell what guage they are. But others are missing some insulation as well. I am mulling it over. I have not unsoldered a pin yet to see just how that is done. Thanks for the insight!

Cut off, hold with pliers, heat with torch, sling solder out.
