Headlights Washer Not Working! Argh!
I bought my 1993 GTS 5-spd with the headlights washers non-operational. I took the liner off and realised the pump was burned. I took the tank off, cleaned it and replaced the pump. Still no joy. Tried to blow some air through the hose - nada.
Do you think the two check valves near the headlights are broken? If yes, does it mean it is time for the front PU to come off... Shall I try blowing compressed air into the line hoping to unstick the valves?

Such a noob question but how do you get those things to activate? Just turn on the lights and hit the washer lever like normal? Nothing in the owners manual about it.

to activate the headlamp washers,
the headlights must be on,
then push the washer stalk, not pull
the washers should squirt

Update, from:

"My understanding of the need for headlight washers was a German TuV regulation which specifically required cleaning glass lenses in the event of any obstruction (e.g. snow) which could deflect path of your bright lights into incoming traffic for a blinding effect. It was mandated on certain types of lighting (e.g. Bi-Xenons) by German law, especially in a systems that moves according to load (e.g. self-leveling depending what is in your trunk, etc)..........."

Had a series of those ARGH!/WHEW! moments with the headlight washers. After Stan showed me how to make the (nipples on a man-ranked useless) headlight washers work I just HAD to try them. No joy...
Well CRAP, now I HAVE to fix this thing I will never use because of the mental illness this car and this forum have infected me with.
Checked fuse #25 (and a 25 amp fuse - damn, they ain't playin') and it was good. Sigh...
On to the next in a progressively PITA series of steps to diagnose and fix this bugger.
Never had a relay issue before (knock on head) but whipped out the trusty chart and low and behold NO RELAY. Could it be that easy? (girlish giggle) Didn't look like any of the others had the same part # to switch out to test so checked the price on a new relay and AAK! $100!!!
Found one on Ebay for $8 so blood pressure eased back into the non-lethal range.
Thanks again for the tip, Stan. Now I can sit back, sip a glass of wine and bask in the often short-lived illusion of an easy fix... ahh...

the key with the washer system is to make sure the metal collars are removed from the tank and filler tube ,
otherwise the washer fluid will accumulate rusty deposits in the tank,
these will then be sprayed onto your painted surfaces,
and possibly stain the paint and or clog the squirters

if you remove the collars then flush the tank you will never have this problem
