Default Skip to the Independence ONE Car Show

After the Gateway Auto Museum and the return trip (which I had to make a little earlier than the rest) I got home and got really busy helping Bette set up for the BBB, the cookout planned for here at the house built by Jerry. I had been shooting for about 5 pm to start, but didn't get here until about then, although the rest began showing up between 5:30 and 6 so it worked out fine.

With some help from some local friends and a couple of the other guys that get back early, we got it all going just fine. However, for that time period I was pretty busy cooking and such so that I now find a complete gap in my pictures. I'm hoping that some of the others took some and can post them for you later.

Therefore this series of pictures now shifts to the Independence ONE Car Show we all did on Saturday, July 6th.

It was a small show, but not as small as it might seem from these few pictures I took myself. I was reallty busy then also. We had about 11 or 12 Porsche 928s in the show and, surprisingly five of them were local, including two that I didn't even know about which showed up for the Show with their owner, a colleague of mine who is now a retired Attorney, but who has two very nice examples, and I didn't even know he owned a Porsche.

In total I think we had about 40 cars and trucks. We also had about 300 or more of the Public who came to see our little offering, but who were all very impressed, especially with the 928s.

Again, I am counting on some of the 928 Participants to post their pictures here for your enjoyment.

This series of pictures has one of yours truly next the my GT taken with my camera by my son, Tim, as I recall.

The second picture of 5 928s in a row are the five in the show that are local to Grand Junction.

Default end of the Show

Here are a couple more pictures of the 928s after the other 6 ort 7 have already left. Then There is my friends London Taxi, and finally apparently the only picture I took at the closing Banquest Saturday evening.

Then I went back through and found a picture of Fred Clark's GTS that I don't think I had posted before. It is really beautiful and so well kept by Fred.

There was another picture from the very beginning of David Wilson washing his car which is what got this event started in the first place, but my computer can't seem to find it or print it. Maybe later I gcan put it up for you.

Default Final few pictures.

Here are some miscellaneous shots, and I found the one of David. One of these shows my GT doing its duty as my freight wagon hauling my event stuff around for me.

I have also included a shot the the split window 63 vette which is another one of my very favorite cars. Not that I have one, but it was my dream to have car for a lot of my youth, at least until I got into the Porsche 356C mode.

This is the end of the Slide Show by Jerry. I hope we will get some similar shows about the 928 Function at the Junction by some others before this thread gets the hook.

I'll have some more to tell about some of the Event segments later and about the plans for next year.

Jerry, Wendy and I want to thank you for the awesome 'Function at the Junction' you and Bette hosted! It was such a fun event with great comaraderie and a wonderful chance to spend time with people who share the same passion. It's always so enjoyable to make new friends and to spend time reconnecting with old ones. Thanks for all the pictures and the memories we'll cherish for a lifetime!

Thanks, Fred. It was great to have you and Wendy and all the other guys and their ladies here for this event. I'm already looking foreward to doing this again next July 4th weekend. Put it on you calendar--July 3 to 6, 2014. I have the car show and dinner reserved for the 5th of July and am working on the Friday, July 4th, excursion to Moab, Utah and the Arches National Park, with a nice box lunch to do a picnic with and a little hike over to the Delicate Arch. I think we will go South off the Interstate at Cisco and take a very scenic route down along the Colorado River then we can take a less direct, but more swift, route back north to I 70 and then back to here. Maybe that evening we will do another BBB at our place if the group doesn't get too large, but then how large is too large?

I'm glad you are safely home. Thanks for coming.

Thank you, David. I really appreciate your going to the trouble to come all the way here from MS. It was great to get to know you, as well as the other 928 people who came. I agree that this was really the people who made this event such a nice success.

I think you are going to enjoy the second annual version of this 928 Function at the Junction next July 4th. I have the plans in the works and will be advertising that Event in the near future so poeple can make or change their plans earlier that they were able to do this year.

And that is partly my fault, but after they got here Friday about midday it seems like my propensity to take pictures got overpowered with my other duties. I am hoping that some of the other participalts who were taking pictures are going to post them, perhaps after they get home and get rested.

Jerry Your the best!!
What a great event, so well laid out, first time I've stayed for all the activities at any of the events I've been too, not at all boring.
All of You 928 folks are what really made the days happen, Fred, Mark, Paul, Mr. Montrose, Colo. (forgot his name)(great driver though) Near miss crash, great to be alive David from Miss. and the couples that showed with No 928's.
Next year i'll show for sure, my wife is even excited to go (but no speeding though) 0hhhh ok.
Got home Monday afternoon, only a 2,805 mile trip.
Thanks again Mr. & Mrs. Feather

Thanks Steve, for coming to the 928 Function at the Junction and for your positive comments here about it. I agree that it is really the poeple like you and all the others who came that makes an event what it turns out to be. I also appreciate your thinking to grab the car wash hose, bucket and wash items that were set up back of the Clarion Inn for you guys to use to clean up your cars for the car show. I think I was going to be prone to forget those items until after they were stolen or lost.

I drained the hose and dried the towels out and noticed that you also brought the mitt and wash items that David had bought at Walmart when he first got here. I'm going to set it all aside for next year; and will consider that David will want his items donated for that use.

Bette and I especially enjoyed the time you took to stay and visit between the Car Show and the Dinner. Forming a new friendship with you and with the others with common interests and attitudes is what makes the 928 so valuable, to me.

One of the things that I miss out on in doing this kind of event here at home is that I don't get to drive here for it. In this case, however, the drive to and from Gateway, CO, pretty well made up for it, epecially "in formation" with you and Bill Dimitri. That was the highlite for me. I hadn't made that 60 mile trip before in a 928 since we usually go with the family in Bette's Cad, so I was pretty well surprised at how nice that road lends itself to what the 928 is capable of, not to mention any of that in detail, of course.

Bette and I are looking foreward to doing this event again next July 3 to 6, and we are going to be pleased to have you bring your wife with you next time. Sorry about the speed. Maybe we can find a segment of that event that kind of lends itself to guys only or something like that. Bette keeps telling me that I need to include some things that are of interest to to gals, and we have plenty of things that could and will perhaps fill that requirement.

I will get to fulfil my need to drive the GT some distacnce tomorrow since the PCA Rocky Mountain Region is having their annual gathering of Porsches for this thursday evening social gathering and the Rocky Mountain Sharks are going to show up in force to try to help break the old record of 182 Porsches. We are going to drive the GT over and I hope we can also set a record for 928s in the showing.

Thanks again, Steve for coming and for being such a positive part of the Function.

One thing that stands out and needs to be mentioned is that although this 928 Function at the Junction did not turn out to be connected to the 928 Owners Club, it certainly was well attended by OC Members, and more importantly, I want to thank the OC for their contribution of numerous OC Goodies for door prizes at our closing Dinner. Those were in fact more generous than needed, so I am saving some of them for next year.

Special thanks to Marc White, VP of the OC, and to Betsy Andrade, OC Goodies Chairman, for coming and for your help in making this Function a great time for all of us.

Jerry,

I am so pleased that your event went well and it was certainly the pleasure of the 928 Owners Club to help out.

For those who have not joined the 928 Owners Club yet, please go to www.928oc.org and click on the "join now" link and we will get you set up and you will be helping to support the formal club that supports your car!
