Default PS Rack Part Help

Hi, I think I need a new rack for my UK (right hand drive) 1990 S4. Suddenly this has popped up on ebay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUIN...c#ht_551wt_932

Can anyone confirm if this seems to be the right part. I didn't think 928's, 944's and 968 would all use the same part. The ZF website seems to back up what is being said in the ebay add

http://webcat.zf.com/index.asp?SPR=4

Cheers,
Mike

I was all over this, getting all exited - NOS rack for 300 quid. After a frantic 5 min figured out that it's not a 928 part. These start with 7840 as far as I figured it out.

So I contacted ZF technical enquires this morning quoting the part numbers stamped on the rack. They came back with the following.

Good morning Mike

The numbers you supplied crosses over to a Porsche number 945 347 011 22. That part numbers fits in to the vehicles listed below.

This sure looks wrong to me. The left side mounting ear is stamped metal rather than cast. It might be the correct length, etc. but mounting it will require some kind of adapter/spacer. The following images are not the same orientation (eBay image is bottom side right hand drive, WSM image is top side left hand drive), but you can see what I mean. The rack housing ends look different.

I'm pretty sceptical myself and if it isn't right then it will go straight back. You are right it doesn't look so good from the pictures then it is a bit odd ZF would get it wrong on their system. Didn't they make the parts for the power steering?

Brett if it doesn't work out then I'll probably see about getting a rebuild from Paul Anderson. Is Porsche 928 Spares - Nixsoft Ltd his website?

Hi Mike

Yes it is.... he is in Stroud....I had a recon rack from him a couple of weeks ago.... it made a huge difference to the steering....

I didn't even realise how bad mine was until the recon rack was fitted, now the steering is absolutely solid and smooth as silk, just like it used to be...

Paul can be hard to get hold of.....if you have a problem getting to him, then ring me at my Computer shop....

All the best Brett
