Default Cat gut experiences.

Gonna gut the cat in the '84 soon , I have the Borla on now and personally I think it sounds a little tame . To anyone who has done this, Will it sound meaner without the cat or will it sound like UPS truck ? I need more snarl and attitude, louder the better. Worse case I lose the rear muffler and fab up a RMB of my own from the Borla resonator back.

The car will stink like $hit if the converter is gutted and it will sound hollow. Better to remove the muffler.

Just replace the cat with a resonator if you really want to do something like that.

Smelly but no bad. Gives a good deep growl.

Had an '85, wouldn't pass inspection, exhaust stank. Found the cat had been gutted. Replaced cat, sounded much better, smelled better, passed no problem. With options available, I don't know why you want to do this.

Cat gut is okay for tennis rackets so long as you don't play in the rain. If you do decide to knock the litter out of the kitties, might consider recycling. THe ubertonium inside has pretty good resale value.

As for sound, Brett gutted his and didn't sound like he was driving for brown... but his had 32 valves... not sure if that makes a difference.

Yes cat gut will not gain power low end maybe a little at the high end. But you get growl and sometimes that is worth the price of admission. Gives that muscle car sound at least on my 87.

I like it others don't. Not sure what it would do to the 16v cars....

I have the borla cat back with gutted cat.

Sounds great. No hollow echo.

Nasty snarl when you get on it.

And it smells like a gasoline engine again.

You can get 50 - 100 for a cat from the recyclers, so maybe use that to put a straight pipe in there. Or just keep it and put a straight piece of pipe in there so the next owner can put it back in if their jurisdiction requires it.

IMHO, its more the sound of a old V8 pickup with no exhaust on it..not a muscle car sound at all.

Muscle car exhaust, is much more rounded..and well, muscle car.
