Default '86.5 CE Panel Photos

Hello!

I am finally digging into the new to me 5-Speed '86.5 and actually got it running last night (lots of small things to sort out, intake refresh, tb&wp, fuel lines still to go). However, the previous owner was a car audio and security nutcase. I literally pulled 2 alarm systems and 4 amps out of the car so far, and I see remnants from at least two different stereos plus the current one in there. A fixed mount phone was in there at some point too.

The problem I am having is that there is so much totally hacked into the wiring and the CE panel itself, and even though I am pretty damn good at reading wiring diagrams, a lot of times a photo says more than a thousand words. So, because my slushbox '86.5 doesn't have a CE panel in it at the moment, I am wondering if anyone has any good resolution pictures of the CE panel in the car with it's wiring around it. I already pulled the crap that was clearly not factory, but have my doubts on a few things, especially since he seemed to have re-purposed some empty stock locations for his own connectors...

So, if anyone has anything like that laying around on their hard drive, I would greatly appreciate it, since it would probably speed up a few things quite a bit!

Thanks already in advance

Best way to know what was not used originally is to look at the wiring diagrams - they are very explicit - even if a little hard to read. A photo will give you a good overview - but not a whole lot more.

The connections to the panel are pretty simple - main power at the top (dual reds), multiple (brown)grounds to ground point and all the bottom connectors. These should be basically impossible to screw up as long as you match the colors - with the right colors mated you cannot plug them in wrong (they simply won't fit).

There should be no other wires attached to the front/back of the CE panel.

Alan, thanks for chiming in...I've been over the diagrams quite a bit over the last few days, and obviously this is not my first 928, however, my first with a 32V engine that's actually complete, so I got rid of a ton of stuff already...probably should sell it with the copper prices these days! LOL! I was just thinking some pictures of another panel would show me some obvious things I've missed.

Denny, thank you so much, that was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I think there are a few connectors and a 3-way or two that are not stock, but definitely way, way less molested than mine is

Thank you so much for all your help, guys!

If for some reason you need closeups of a section let us know, I've got one that can become a hand model.

Awesome, Landseer! I might have to take you up on that offer at some point! I am pulling the console on Sunday, really curious about what I will find behind it. Just peeking in from the back looks like a wire spaghetti nightmare with no more room for more wires. Some weird meters and indicators that apparently no longer function built into that console around the clock as well...

Alan, I know mine has been messed with. Which jumpers are you referring to?

Anyone have pictures of a completely unmolested panel?

Looks like you have 3 wire jumper/bridges plugged into the front of the panel in the relay slots - none of these are factory - though here may have been a single brass bridge installed depending on configuration.

You should check what relay slots these are in and if you need a bridge buy the correct one.

Here is a '94 GTS - (not entirely unmolested) - but it has the correct bridge installed for a manual car.

I have a couple of CE panels from a '79 and an '85. If your car uses the old bullet BUSS fuses, then it would probably work. Let me know

The style changed to the new fuses & panel in '85 (so one of yours should be a new style panel...?). In any case these panels are different by year - sometime hugely different, not every year changed but most did in at least minor ways.

It is a major project to try to convert a panel between configurations (AND verify you did it right...)
