Talking Took the Leap

Hey all, I've been a lurker for a while now, first post. I've been eyeing a 928 for quite some time now. I've always preferred the idea of getting a 5.0 quad cam, but today I came across a deal I simply couldn't resist. a 79 Euro automatic with 60k miles on the clock. It does a fuel issue but it was for $500. Thanks to a little reading here and some looking through a K Jet manual and Chilton shop manual I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is and how to fix it. I'll keep you all updated if I get stumped and on how everything is going. I'm looking forward to being able to talk shop with all of you here and eventually discussing modifications. Cheers all.

PS. Pictures will be coming, in my excitement I forgot to take any.

Congratulations and welcome to the shark tank.

You should probably have more than just a Chilton manual. Check out these links for starters.

IIRC the Chilton manual is some kind of collectors item; I saw one go for an ridiculous price on ebay. I agree with depami, I don't think the Chilton is near what you will need, but if it solves the fuel issue, so much the better.

Search "Moorehouse" he has or had a set of CDs the core of which is WSM. One of the vendors might have them??

Thanks for the advice and the welcomes all. I really appreciate it. Work was going to officially begin today, we've determined that most of the issue is someone having drastically overfilled the oil, but it's time for a change anyway. So we'll change the oil, clean out the intake manifold and all that fun stuff. I'll look into those links provided by depami and also look into the value of the chilton manual as reccomended by Steve G and try to keep everyone updated from there. Thanks again. But now, for the promised pics.

Sorry it has been a while since I've updated anyone on the goings on with the car. So far it looks like any issues it has had are due to poor maintenance on the part of the PO. I changed the oil and ended up draining nearly 4 gallons. The cap and the rotor had begun chewing through each other the firing order was off and so is the timing as well as the air fuel mixture. There is also an exhaust leak off the left exhaust manifold at the flange. Other than those issues though everything seems to be in order. Thanks again for the links provided and the warm welcome. Ideally in the next few days I'll be reporting about the first drive and taking some more pictures after getting her all cleaned up.

RandyV: the interior is pretty good, the seats are immaculate, almost like no one has ever even sat in them.

MjRocket: I don't know the mudflaps have kinda grown on me, they probably will get removed though. I ever find a set with naked ladies though and I'll get them just for you. Haha

Good that it is running. Have fun. And yes many of these cars have been poorly maintained over the years. The basic mechanicals are pretty tough however.
