Default Turbo Twist Wheels

Hi Guys:

I tried the search and was surprised I couldn't find the answer I was looking for since I see a lot of these wheels are used.

I have a 79 and I have the turbo twist hollow wheels from a 2001 Turbo.

Two questions.

I can't get the center cap to fit on the front, the bearing cap sticks out too far but if I put a spacer on, the tires rub on fast or bumpy corners. How did you guys get the center cap to fit without using a spacer.

Once I get that sorted could I use 245/35 ZR 18 tires on the front without problems.

Thanks,

Gary

You need to shave the center bearning cap to get the center caps to fit (remove material from the backside of the cap)

245's will rub w/a stock or lower front ride height.

225's are close-to-rubbing at stock ride height. Anything lower, and they will rub too.

Since you're referring to a '79 the ride height should not be a concern w/ 225's, but may be with 245's

Interested in these wheels on my 79 too. On the 944 I had to machine 5mm off the hubs where they hold the caps and machine the cap seats to get them to fit.

What are the front-back ET's of your hollows?

Thanks Jim,

Currently there are 235/40ZR18's on the wheels and when I run them without the spacers they work just fine. The car is a little lower than stock and I am running Suspension Tech springs and Bilstiens, the engine is a 5.0 Euro S Hybrid and I have run a few DE's with these tires and no center caps or spacers and had no problems. But for the street it would be nice to have the center caps on.

Thanks,

Gary

Thanks XSCHOP,

I hope that isn't what is required for the 928 but hopefully we will find our soon.

I don't know the ET's, the back is flared so I am just running a spacer to fill the well, the front looks to be close to stock or a little further in to the center of the car which I think causes the problem with the bearing cap

Thanks,

Gary

IIRC the ones I had were 18x8 (ET 50) and 18x11 (ET 45) . I found a hollow set locally I can get ahold of and wonder what if they'd fit the 928 without hassel... Here's what it took to mount to the 86 944....

Thanks XSCHOP,

Those sound like the wheels I have.

Thanks for the pictures, it looks like you are fabricating a new cap or is that just the modifications.

Thanks,

Gary

On the 944 cap, the lip is doubled-over when hyroformed, so I had to weld the inner area first then lathe the outer lip/seat so it didn't go airborne. I found after doing this I still had to take 4-5mm's of the alloy hub cap bosses to. I'll see what you come up with since yours is the same year/hubs.
