Yeah, Jeff, you might have a point about coating the stock GTS (and later S4) saltine cracker-based liners with something to preserve the original integrity over time.

I have sold 23 of the right rear liners in the last 12 months. The left side has been unavailable for over 12 months. I keep one in stock at all times because it is a good seller. Certainly looks like different material and the foam has been updated and looks much better. Perfect fit as well.
Fitting one to my GTS and time will tell if it lasts.
There are 15 in Germany, one in Atlanta and two here at 928sRus.
Price is $590.

The 89 and earlier years only came with full front wheel well liners. In the rear the liners are "partial", the plastic "bulkheads", as you called them. On the right side, there is only one panel on the front side of the well. On the left side rear wheel there are bulkhead panels on the front and rear portions. Starting in 91, I believe, Porsche installed full rear wheel well liners and changed the material used to something that breaks down over time, unlike the fronts. It seems to have more sound deadening properties, but eventually they fall part if you touch them. Based on Roger's comments, perhaps the current batch of rear liners is more durable, but it will be 10+ years before we would know.

The Left side is not NLA but on manufacturing back order. However trying to figure out when it will be available again is in the hands of the Porsche gods.

Hmm.. I need to research the mounting points on a '91 to see how the 91 variant attaches and whether I can make some brackets the same.

Roger - is there any way of ordering the '91 variant of the factory liners? Or is it like factory rod bearings.. pot luck which size you get? (i.e. order 10 and hope that you get a pair ).

Hilton,
They have different part numbers.
I have an early left coming on Monday/Tuesday so we can compare how it fits to the GTS.

Rog,
Do you think they actually changed the material they made these from????

I have a PSD resv I need to install, but I'm concerned about taking out the liner and have it crumble apart.

It has the consistency of MAJIC SHELL ice cream topping!!

They are certainly different today than to my originals. Different foam and who knows about the plastic material. If enough people have complained about the original, Porsche would have done something about it.

Porsche put these in the 91 to 95 cars for ONE reason only – sound attenuation. The PSD was already protected by a thick plastic shield in the 90 and early 91 cars.

As to the life expectancy check back with me in 15 years and I will let you know. The one going in my GTS is already two years old and still looks and flexes like new.

Chuck you have your priorities way wrong – your PSD is way more important than the fender liner.
