Default GTS Rear Suspension Upper Control Arm Bushing Issue

Hi

93 GTS (early). I'm replacing the shocks and doing a few WYAIT chores. I've got the left rear suspension disassembled for new bushings and wheel bearing and found something unexpected.

Here's the problem I'm looking at: It appears that the outboard upper control arm bushing (the one that attaches to the wheel carrier) has been installed backwards.

In that outboard bushing, the metal sleeve has built in conical hub with an hex key socket (probably 10 mm). Regardless, the conical part of that sleeve in my assembly faces the rear of the car (and away from the wheel carrier). Here's a picture of the bushing with conical insert.

Here are two pictures of my left rear upper control arm. The inboard side is on the right. The outboard side (the one that attaches to the wheel carrier) is on the left.

The WSM and PET are not helpful at all. It would be great if one of the gurus could confirm that the bushing has been inserted backwards. If so, what options exist for this piece? As far as I know, the bushing is NLA.

Thanks for your help.

Looks correct to me. I just had mine apart recently on my '87 to swap shocks.

The upper control arm (dog-bone) attaches to the forward side of the hub. The hub has conical depressions on both sides - the rear side should have a conical washer and the nut.

AFAIK all the rear control arms bushings, both upper and lower, are currently available.

Upper rear control arm bushing- both ends (need 4) 928 331 089 02

Lower rear control arm inner rear bushing (need 2) 928 331 588 10

Lower rear control arm outer rear bushing (need 4) 928 331 588 13

Lower rear control forward bushing ('rocker bar') need 2 - 928 331 085 00

Two more data points:

Thanks Hilton and Rob,

Dog bone attaches to the forward side of the carrier.
One cone washer, one cone-head bushing.

Now to find the rest of those bushings.

If the bolt on the inner side of the dog bone link shears, what are my options?

I'm interested in attempting this job but concerned that access might by quite limited if this is not part of a larger project

I very much doubt you will shear the bolt. Clean the exposed thread and Kroil or PB it before undoing. Much easier to address the bushes as part of "everything at the back" - one of the threads here. I am half way through this job and found lubing the arm and freezing the bush to work well in stopping it absorbing the force to push the new one in

Access to the inner nut was the problem as I feared using a spanner might end up rounding the nut. The problem as I recall was the coilover being immediately in the way and so I elected to pull the things- then removal of the upper arm was easy. Given I wanted to check everything out it was not a huge effort and the main pin though the lower arm came out without a struggle but then I do not live in the UK with its salt encrusted roads.

If any one cares I sell adjustable upper dog bones with rose-joints instead of the rubber bushes. Two birs with one stone - camber is much easier to adjust since you don't have to play with the stupid eccentric and corroded cross member and also, the rose-joints are cheaper to buy/replace than the OEM Porsche bushes. No audible increase in NVH.
